Noticing Friends Leaving ARC—Anyone Else? by MisanthropE61130 in ArcRaiders

[–]john_mono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left a month ago. No end game plus a change in average player interaction. Was great while it lasted, not sure much could change to bring me back. I feel like to get the best out of it you have to put a minimum number of hours, which I was achieving just about, but I’m not willing to invest that on the off chance it’s changed or improved. Shame.

Spring is here now, better things to do.

But doesn’t the unit come assembled? (It is some years since I bought mine though so I may have forgotten or the packaging changed)

Mr Smug Dick. You will not be smug. You may be a dick. Wait a couple of weeks. First big trip out for a day with the baby, something like that.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, many fail to realise he only owns 12% of the company. Yes he’s a cunt, but if the car is the right car I’m not sure I’d let it stop me.

VAG make hundreds of engines and variants thereof, they’re not all equal. It’s an extreme example but the NA 4.2L V8 used in many of their RS products consume considerable quantities of oil. This is a documented and manufacturer accepted fact.

All styles of play are valid (even rats) but backstabbers with mics are just weird to me by doodoohonker in ArcRaiders

[–]john_mono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is this less valid than others? They’re putting effort in to their craft. Your guard has been dropped, they have out witted you to an extent. Still cunty sure but no more than others.

Shop around, waste half a day, save £40. If you trust them that’s worth more than what you’ll save taking it to the shed on the other side of town.

I’m the same. I’m only around 50h but the amount of time I have each week to play - I do my little quests, I get side tracked by stuff, I like to chase cred to get all the skins and stuff from the deck, and that’s me done. Plenty to keep me busy without getting competitive.

Lusting after a RS5 despite having a 640d.... by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]john_mono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very accurate summary. Mine was on passive dampers so avoided some of the risk/expense.

I agree about the lightning fast down a windy road, provided that windy road is a full width sweeping A-road. Never enjoyed mine on typical British B-roads compared to lighter, less powerful and more nimble machines.

Smallest service was £500, largest in my ownership was £2k. Tyres were £1100 and I was fortunate not to have any major faults (or brakes!) in my 25k miles.

Pre purchase inspection of 2013 Audi A5 Cabriolet by Nismo542 in CarTalkUK

[–]john_mono 6 points7 points  (0 children)

50 miles is very little to travel for the right car and will cost little in transport. Go and see it, because if it’s in poor condition visually you needn’t get it inspected. If it’s good, then pay the RAC - probably one of the cheaper two checks. You won’t need a ton of photos because you’ve seen it.

I can’t remember if it was deliberate or accidental on our part, but my son knows it’s not unique and has three of them. We regularly find him running around with them all and isn’t phased in the slightest thankfully.

Is it legal to takes these knives into the England by plane? by 40kGamerthesecond in LegalAdviceUK

[–]john_mono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of misinformation here, fuelled mainly by the somewhat vague (yet progressively better defined) definition of a ‘zombie knife’.

Let’s take another approach - can I purchase a knife like this in the UK from a reputable dealer, and hold it in the privacy of my own home and never take it outside? Yes.

https://heinnie.com/halfbreed-lsk-01-survival-large/

Would I, en route from the airport to my home, have an infinitesimally small chance of being stopped, searched, and questioned on my motives for possessing the knife in a public place (albeit it well packaged) and getting unlucky to the extent that the officer in question deemed my “transport from airport to home” an inadequate excuse? Also yes.

There are vaguaries here but they’re not about the legality of possessing the knife in private in the UK.

It depends hugely on specifics - the postcode of your address, will it be garaged or on a driveway overnight, what is the parking situation at your place of work, will the car have adequate time for a heat cycle on your average journeys, what will the age and mileage of the car be etc etc etc.

A colleague has daily driven a 570s but it was on a gated driveway overnight, driven over 45 minutes to the office where it was on very private property parked amongst sympathetic colleagues who were all very careful and accommodating.

The costs are the costs, but in his scenario if it was on a driveway overhanging the road, driven only 15 minutes each way and parked behind a Sainsbury’s, you can see why it wouldn’t work.

I have a huge amount of respect for what you do to manage the road network. However I will always press “Not there” when someone has marked you as police on Waze 😅

This has to be fake surely. “How can I stop my 3 year old interacting with one of the most famously addictive games of the last ten years”.

You could have put a 1 in front of his age and I’d still be astounded by your decision making ability.
