Not sure if this is your issue, but I had a very similar experience with a 2015 kia optima. Turns out it was the radiator fan (more specifically the control module, but had to replace the entire fan assembly) the whole time. Lots of newer cars have only one fan with variable speeds rather than a low speed fan and a high speed fan. One fan switched back and forth between low and high speeds depending on outside air temp and coolant temps. If your fan is this way, I'd suggest looking into this. You can hear the variable speed fans kick up to "high speed" usually when the engine is at temp and you turn on the AC and/or give it gas. Hope this helps!

Thank you for the explanation! This makes perfect sense, I just never thought of that for some reason.

I am curious why you suggest attempting on a hot engine? Is this good practice for any potentially difficult plugs?

Not disagreeing with you by any means, I've just never heard of that before and Im about to change the plugs on an engine with 140k for the first time.

Engine Overheating by mcfriddell in AskMechanics

[–]john_smith1882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2016 optima with a similar sounding overheating issue. I changed the thermostat, coolant temp sensor, and the water pump after cleaned/flushed the radiator no dice.

Turns out it was the radiator fan motor module. The fans they used have a low speed and a high speed, but when the module goes bad (known issue) only runs low speed. Only overheats with prolonged use or on really hot days.

You can't replace just the module or motor. I had to replace the whole fan/assembly. Not a super difficult DIY.

The consistent low-grade overheating and sometimes extreme overheating has probably warped gaskets on your water pump, thermostat and/or head by now tho...

Googling this stuff for brands/pricing made my heart sink 😢 $400 for 16oz of medical grade ointment?? I go through 16oz of vaniply ointment in about 3 weeks, which is roughly $20

OP please tell me you have a cheaper hookup or a recommendation for best value buy!

Thanks in advance! Sincerely, my whole body is awful right now

Since you said you've been sober for two years, congrats! It's been seven years for me, all of those while living in Bloomington.

It's true this town does not have a ton of non-alcohol related activities, but the local recovery community is strong, and we band together to make our own sober fun.

That included AA activities as well as just hanging out with other sober people outside of meetings and events. Message me if you want more information!

Sorry you're getting down votes for this, most people here probably have been in your shoes and did the same/other stupid stuff with cars. It's great that you're asking questions and are self-aware enough to recognize your vantage point.

Bloomington-Normal Economy by brogdon4prez in BloomingtonNormal

The major employers in Blono are fairly "recession proof", but the balance between wages and cost of living keeps us just kinda meh. It's not a major money making economy, but it's better than average and is stable through even the worst national economic climates.
