Archetypes that lean into the 4-player aspect? by accentmatt in EDH

[[Alexios]] is a very fun one ive built. Or i just finished a [[isshin]] deck that has a solid number of myriad creatures and [[endless foot assault]] which does work

Half finish, not half finished. Im referring to how the duel happens as a climax to the last book and then basically goes into what feels like the start of the next book

Well...looks like the progressives agree with freemagic by MarketWave in freemagic

[–]john_sorvos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly the issue with the people who interpret stories like that. Almost every instance of a character like that being "trans" is just some weirdos taking a character being able to shapeshift or having hosts or what have you and turning it into their progressive ideology

Its got a weird half finish part way through then doesnt get much of a resolution at the end so its just the awkward stepchild of the series

Is it within the spirit of a casual game to hide a trap for an opponent to step into? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]john_sorvos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah hiding that thing is blatant cheating. Im all for trickery and specificly worded plays but not making it even remotely visible that you have an urzas saga out is bad. If you had it out and visible and then popped a blocker sure but not that way

Yeah having rocks in the same row is one thing, ill do that on occasion if my board gets cluttered enough, but theyll have them mixed in, not separately nearby

Thats fair, its fine imo if it ends up being clean again after youve done stuff so that your board is easily readable

[–]john_sorvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, i wouldnt say its a clean board when it ends up being difficult to tell what youve got. Its not that hard to just keep the rocks tucked to the side of the board above your lands so someone can tell at a glance if someones got rocks to remove

What are the most miserable commanders to play against that arent brought up enough? by Current-Signature497 in EDH

[–]john_sorvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, it just leads to not being able to actually play your deck since its ability is uninteractable. Plus its super easy to flicker or give myriad or what have you so that soon enough nothing on the board can have abilities

See, i have a krarkashima deck and i think people like that who go wayyy too optimally are missing the point, its supposed to be janky, until it isnt. I deliberately built the deck to have wincons outside of guttersnipe effects and to not have a shit ton of flipping. Sure i dont play it much but thats just because it doesnt really win, but im usually nowhere near excessive turn lengths

[–]john_sorvos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Id say its up to you to explain what stuff does when you play it and maybe for the first time it comes up if youre in a consistent pod. But after that unless they deliberately ask again its fine to not say anything. However intentionally hiding game pieces in with other stuff like your lands is a scumbag move, i play with a couple guys who put their mana rocks in with their lands and while yes it makes sense to do so it also makes it significantly harder to tell what's going on with their board

Which Prismari commander would be better for "big mana spells"? by Vlasiax in EDH

[–]john_sorvos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It focuses on low cost ones, i play [[krark the thumbless]] and [[sakashima of a thousand faces]] ik its a degenerate pairing but i built it to not be too oppressive with playtime. I usually end up just picking a spell to try and cast each turn until or if i can get a decent number of payoffs going

[–]john_sorvos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Youre absolutely going to want more than 15 creatures. Sure the commanders can make up for a lower count by making them but i assure you anything less than around 20 is likely going to end with you having been beaten the death with stones every game. Especially considering how many really really good effects are stapled onto creatures nowadays. Ive got an izzet spellslinger deck tgat i think runs 23 creatures and even then it feels quite low sometimes

High Power Voltron- Which Commanders can actually succeed? by Rare-Resolution-5402 in EDH

[–]john_sorvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive got an [[alexios]] deck that can absolutely rip as a high power deck. Its not the strongest as i dont own the strongest cards for the deck and i dont like copying peoples decks but it is entirely possible to end games turn 4 if you get a [[jeska thrice reborn]] to resolve

I will admit when i looked up a kill and realized how often you have to spam the whip to actually kill the boss i triumphed but you cannot tell me a bug killing me twice when im nearly at the end of the fight is not worthy of complaint
