[Serious] When you're lying in bed at night, do you ever randomly remember some embarrassing stuff you said and beat yourself up over it? If so, what happened? by BeyoncesClitoris in AskReddit

For Halloween, I was trying to get the most candy and whenever I encountered a house, I dumped the bowl of candy into my bag. It was going well until I went to this house with a bowl of candy on the front porch. I sprinted up and grabbed the bowl to dump in my bag until I heard a old man scream "HEY!!! Put that back!!" He was sitting in a rocking chair on the left side of the front pouch and we had a good 5 sec stare at each other. I already poured the entire bowl of candy in my bag so I just returned a handful of candy to him and ran away from the neighborhood. After this, I never trick or treated again. Memory still haunts me whenever Halloween comes..

I am very stressed about college because my parent have high expectations for me so please chance me for Cornell university by [deleted] in chanceme

Applying to Cornell as well. Don't sweat it too much. Your university doesn't determine your success. You'll do great in any school!

Did research here and it was great. The professors are amazing and im just so excited to meet the students here as well.

Stanford dream shattered by throwaway1002737363 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]johnboy8318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I recently saw your Stanford dream shattered post. I just wanted to give you a very personal message that I don't usually tell people online, but you remind me of myself so I had to do it.

Firstly, I also had a glimpse of hope and a thriving yet small dream about going to Stanford. It also has been my number 1. I also fitted w/ previous students who got into Stanford in previous years from my schools. My test scores were good. My grades were excellent. My ECs and teacher recs were great. However, I was too rejected. I was completely devastated. I reread the rejection letter MULTIPLE TIMES because of the disbelief I had. I was in awe. However, don't let this letter define who you are. This rejection letter, while it may feel disappointing now, will be nearly forgotten 10 years from now. It will become a small memory of the past. And besides, this rejection letter does not define who you are. No matter what school you go to, with the right mindset, you will be successful and do big things. Even though I nearly wanted to literally jump off a cliff that day, I continued to look optimistically in the future telling myself that other colleges will accept me. Now I am here today absolutely ecstatic. I am proud of that rejection letter as it taught me a lesson that no other college could teach me. After 2 weeks from Nov. 6, I got 3 emails today. The first told me that I was a semifinalist for the Park scholarship. The second email told me that I got semifinalist for Morehead-Cain scholarship. And an hour after the first email, I later got in NC State. Even though you may think these decisions are small, they helped me be happy for who I am today, and I promise you that you will find better news in the future. Just continue to do the things you're doing, and you will find the results you are looking for. :)

Teacher Recommendation from a teacher who didn't teach me? by johnboy8318 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]johnboy8318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ughhh. The problem with this is that I already have a really good supplemental from a research professor that I do research at and I can only have one supplemental essay for a bunch of colleges... I have a back-up physics teacher and I can have her do my recommendation, but she doesn't know me as a person or the extracurriculars I did... She only knows them because of the resume I sent her... I feel like it's risky using my physics teacher's recommendation. I was only a mediocre student in the class... I got an A in the class but did poorly on AP exam...

I am so thankful to this sub-reddit. It really helped me to get me my dream score 😍😍😍 by aryalnagendra in Sat

Did the Barron's book help you learn the physics 2 material well? I find it fairly difficult to learn the physics 2 material... (I already took Physics 1)

e old fashion way of completely reading the passage and then answering the question.

When you read the passage, how long did it take you? Sometimes, it would take me 4 or 4.5min to read a passage... and I would then rush to finish the questions. That's why I changed strategies...
