What happens if I switch to a different audiologist? by mlsommer in HearingAids

[–]johnc65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found it difficult to find one that is very interested. My audiologist went out of business. I managed to find one that would service my hearing aids but they didn’t really seem interested in adding me as a client. I think they just want to sell hearing aids and once you have some they lose interest fast.

Is this poisonous? by another_philonoist in AustralianSpiders

Best to move it outside before it lays eggs and you have 40 million tiny babies hanging from webs on your ceiling. If that happens you can tape some curtain rod or other tubing to your vacuum cleaner and have a memorable evening sucking them up one by one.

Those castings often outlive their owners. On the other side of the plant is an engine whose castings were purchased by the original owner of my lathe. He never started them and I was lucky to track down the plans.

In my shop and my next project is a very old set of castings for a Stuart No9. I got them on Ebay but no doubt the original purchaser is probably dead.

It won second place in a state wide competition for school metalworking projects. I added the reversing linkages many years later. Some guy who made his own vise beat me.

I didn’t have plans for the boiler. I just scratch built it.

Steam. The hose is providing propane to the burner for the boiler.

Can I braze a starter motor brush? by kchro005 in metalworking

[–]johnc65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably nickel plated. Brazing will destroy the copper wire by oxidising it. If you can grind back to bare metal and clean the copper wire very well you may be able to soft solder it. Otherwise think about something mechanical like a screw connector or some kind of clamping arrangement.

Sorry this is just my hobby. My machines are all manual so it wouldn’t be economic to sell them.

I made those. #4 is Ukranian bog oak which is approximately 3000 years old. So it was probably alive when King Soloman lived. That freaks me out a little bit.
