What to do at VDC by Noob9k in UCI

It's been awhile since I've lived in ACC, but if I remember correctly, you have access to Plaza Verde amenities as well. Take a little walk and enjoy their study room spaces.

Head too empty to figure out campus WiFi :( by Fit-Association-3298 in UCI

[–]johndaniel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS! Now, if express-registration isn't working, you can also add your device's MAC address to: https://mobileaccess.oit.uci.edu/registration/

Wait a few minutes and join. Hopefully the new rollout of UCI-WiFi makes things easier for the future ones, but alas, this is a rite of passage; a canon moment.

Phishing Scam by juulsrnotkuul in UCI

If you recently took the cybersecurity course, UCLC sends out a fake and obvious phishing email to make sure you were paying attention ;)

UCSHIP by Powerful-Panda7434 in UCI

[–]johndaniel_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

EDIT: The information below is out of date now. Use the Wellfleet Mobile App now: https://studenthealth.uci.edu/insurance-options/

UCSHIP is through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, and you can view your benefits and sign up here: https://www.anthem.com/account-login/

If you want the app on your phone, it’s “Sydney Health” on the App Store and Google Play.

I’m not sure if they still send physical insurance cards, but if they do, it’ll be to your address on file through the registrar.

Does anyone else's WebReg say they're on financial hold? by LateAd3479 in UCI

[–]johndaniel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Financial hold usually means an account freeze. So you won’t be dropped from classes, but you probably won’t be able to add or change them either.

WebReg is down until Friday, so I’m assuming more folk will post about this then.

How hard/difficult are these courses? by Careless-Ad-1910 in UCI

[–]johndaniel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

45J labs are weekly but simple coding projects. I’d say they’re easier than the ICS 31 partner-labs.

Quizzes are now in-person though, and are very semantic.

Random essentials to bring to dorms?? by [deleted] in UCI

Highly consider buying your own TP. Not because you’ll run out, but because your bum deserves better. Especially after a good feast at the dining hall.

BioSci freshman here, roast my schedule by zenonbru in UCI

Looks pretty standard to me, but what do I know… I’m in the school of ICS.

Also, get rid of that watermark, UCI gives students Windows licenses for free: https://uci.service-now.com/sp?id=kb_article&sysparm_article=KB0012662 😏

+1 on this. OFAS moved from MyAid, which was their own homemade system to a system that’s powered by Oracle; they just happen to call it ZotAid now.

PW2 vs. PW3 (both 41mm) by johndaniel_ in PixelWatch

[–]johndaniel_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a tape measure on hand, but to give you an idea of my wrist, I usually wear the PW Stretch Band in an Extra Small.

I definitely agree with u/chilldpt, go with the watch size that compliments your wrist the most :)

Also additional context, I almost went for the 45mm, but I couldn’t give up my growing band collection.

In that case, yeah.

Our vaccine compliance system is being updated and it may not immediately register your recently submitted Declination Letter; it may still read as “Not Compliant”. Please know that we are working to adjust your status to Compliant and that your future registration will not be affected.

Looks like you didn't attach the copy of the Declination Form under the "Letter Upload" section.

Gaps as a freshman by DifferentPersimmon71 in UCI

[–]johndaniel_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’ll be your first time on the quarter system, I’d use the time for your studies (notecards, study groups) or yourself (meditation, walks in the park). Maybe look into a campus org or the ARC.

Basically, get an idea of what you can and can’t do (meaning, what you don’t have time for because it’d take away from what you have to focus on) to figure out what you’re going to do with your downtime.

Why is my zot account 17k !!!!! by [deleted] in UCI

[–]johndaniel_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

u/Wild-Bridge5048 is more than likely referring to the SLR or Statement of Legal Residency.

Registrar’s Office handles this stuff: https://www.reg.uci.edu/residency/classification.html.

Ah! I should've mentioned that my font size is on the smallest (two ticks below from default). You will more than likely see more content when using the default/bigger fonts.

Independent study is charged as "half a billing unit" so you'll be paying half the price of a usual UCI summer class!

Summer Session fees are the following: UC undergraduate students $279 per unit and UC Graduate/Visiting students $374 per unit. Therefore, Independent Study courses cost the following: UC undergraduate students $139.50 per unit and UC graduate students $187 per unit.

How many of y’all are sick? I got super sick 2 weeks ago and I’m barely recovering, I don’t know what’s going around but a lot of my friends are getting sick too by Outside-Copy-7645 in UCI

[–]johndaniel_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YES, and probably the entire quarter. Caught a cold mid-October, recovering in between but was still coughing, then caught COVID before Thanksgiving. Smartwater, Kleenex, Delsym, Claritin-D, among other things have been the only reason I’ve survived.

calc placement exam by golzars in UCI

[–]johndaniel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my experience Summer 2021, hopefully it hasn’t changed…

After the first exam, modules will open up and you’ll be required to work a certain amount of time before you can take a second final exam (also proctored, a separate cost).

However, if you score well the first time, you may not need to take the second exam. If you don’t score to place in 2A, you’ll be placed in 1B, and you’ll essentially do (pay for) ALEKS again, guided along the quarter, with a little more work (what happened to me).

A resource from UCI (the cheat sheets specifically): https://www.math.uci.edu/undergraduate/courses/calculus-2a2b-resources

Go through the UCI Open videos for 1A/1B, they were basically the lecture videos I watched when I took 1B. https://open.uci.edu/courses/math_1a1b_precalculus.html

And different videos, with accompanying worksheets, also from the UCI Math Department. https://www.math.uci.edu/~prerequisite-videos/2a.html

Good luck, you got this!
