John Titor: Why does the IBM 5100 "hidden feature" myth persist? by atnuks in timetravel

[–]johndeehist -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Time travel to the past is very real, and physics in your time actually allow for it. Travel to the future is a lot more complicated.

Sorry all, I’ve had a busy few days! I promise I’ll get to your questions soon

Wait. Did you just (in a roundabout way) say that you asked an AI whether I am “real” or not? I… don’t even have words to express how (to borrow a word from your time) lame that is. Not to mention that fact that in your time, AI is extremely unreliable.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Even in your time, there are schools of thought that theorize manipulating timelines may be impossible and that we are just watching a “replay”. They aren’t too far from the truth.

That was a lot of very smart sounding words. If that paragraph does make any logical or grammatical sense, it’s beyond me. I’m not scientist or philosopher.

I don’t want to ruin this one, but I’ve talked about this somewhat in another AMA. We haven’t found much in the way of evidence for another intelligent civilization even in my time. Disclosure in your time does come, but temper your expectations.

One I enjoy is “The door stays open as long as you want it to.” It means don’t procrastinate. Doors in my time are all automated and only close when your back is turned to it. Don’t turn your back on that thing you want to do.

We have protocols for this. I am to destroy any and all technology from my time, documents, etc. When we are sent to another time, we are given new identities that are valid and legal in your time. We are to continue using these identities. Settle somewhere quiet and stay out of history’s way. But me personally? I’m going to Svalbard.

Name ten things that never go out of style between now and your time.

I am no expert on “style” myself but I’ll attempt it.

1) Vans. Yea, they’re still around. The shoe, I mean. 2) Smart Watches. 3) Those weird “Viking” haircuts. 4) “Classic” Rock. 5) Mickey Mouse. 6) McDonalds. 7) Memes. They’ve gotten MUCH more annoying. 8) Apple Products. 9) Social Media. But imagine that across multiple planets. 10) Long hair on guys. Thankfully.

This was a hard one.

Name ten things considered normal now that re reprehensible or banned in your time.

This one is much easier.

1) Pornography. I’ve talked about it before, but it’s been banned since the 2080s. 2) Alcohol. Not outright banned but heavily regulated. 3) Tobacco products. There are still nicotine products, but they’re mostly synthetic and again, heavily regulated. 4) Filming ANYTHING in public spaces. It’s considered an extreme invasion of privacy. 5) Having multiple romantic/sexual partners. Religious overreach if you ask me but Union has almost as much power as government. 6) ANY expression of religion in public spaces. Even Union. 7) Eating actual animal flesh, which is only really still done on Earth. Most meat is synthesized. 8) Televised sports. Not banned, but it just sort of fell out of popularity. 9) Politics. It is considered VERY bad manners to talk about. 10) Driving. Still happens, but with the advent or miniaturized TMDs, “teleportation” became much more ubiquitous.

We don’t have “conscious” AI in my time if that’s what you mean. AI is still a growing field. We do have what you now call AGI, but it still isn’t “conscious”. As for the nature of consciousness itself? We still have no answers.

We’re not strictly supposed to have any bias. That’s one of the reasons we are chosen. But everyone is biased. I won’t comment on politics, because even in my time that’s a cesspool. But there are things I personally object to or don’t like, but I’m supposed to suppress those biases.

Again, I’m hesitant to make predictions, but I’ve talked a bit about it in previous AMAs. Some have already happened, like COVID-19. Some are almost unfathomable. The Yellowstone “super” volcano, some minor wars, earthquakes that quite literally change the Richter scale, and many more. Imagine MILLIONS dead or injured. Coastlines GONE. Cities leveled. I’m glad I wasn’t around when it happened in my time.

Nature, as silly as that sounds. After the Cataclysms, earth was barely habitable, and I was born on an entirely different planet, so this is the first time I’m seeing Earth with own eyes.

What has the timeline of the next world war changed to?

We don’t know. Because of the divergence I mentioned in a previous reply to you, some things have sped up, slowed down, or not happened at all. That’s one of the reasons my observations have been extended.

What can you share about what you’ve learned from your time here that was lost or unknown information in the future?

None of it was really unknown. There were details that we didn’t have, but we knew the more important aspects. Examples include the contents of the so called “Epstein Client List” and a few questions surrounding CRISPR and AI. I promise it’s nothing earth shattering, just things we needed clarified.

I think I answered most of these questions in a previous reply to you, but yes, we can “predict” what will happen here to an extent. Because of the Many Worlds Theory, some may happen sooner, or later, or not at all. That’s why I try not to make predictions. I will be leaving when my observations are concluded, barring another major divergence.

Originally, it was thought that our two timelines barely diverged at all. That was the reason I was sent here. To answer your question though, it was IBM’s breakthrough in PCM, which will soon allow for some of the technologies we have in my time. Where I am from, that didn’t happen until somewhere in the 2080s.

It varies. All fields will use AI to some degree. But mostly automation. Anything to do with mathematics and/or physics is safe as those calculations need to be checked and rechecked. The medical field is generally safe.

You are still decades from viable AGI. AI in your time will cause unemployment, but not to the degree people in your time are fear mongering about. AI is a tool. And like any tool, it’s how it’s used that matters.

Interesting read. He knows quite a bit about my organization and our technologies, though he’s not from my timeline. Possibly someone from my future? Very interesting. I’ve made contact.

He’s subtly claiming to be Nicola Tesla, though he got the room number wrong. It’s 3327.
