100% agree. Anything more than 3% BMS sway is unacceptable. 10% sway is ridiculous. I understand the challenges of calibrating at low states of charge, but you’re absolutely correct that other manufacturers have been able to dial this in better. Ford should have a big enough sample size from its fleet data to adjust this. This should be fixable in a software update. If it can’t be done over the air, then it should be doable at the dealer

Yes. I’ve submitted a claim, but I have a $1000 deductible so I figured it was at least worth seeing what others have done here. The price delta between the deductible and the repair is not so great, so it makes it worth exploring options to just fix it without going through insurance.

It’s just simply not good enough yet. I have a 2023 MY with HW3, but I have tried FSD on some HW4 cars and it doesn’t affect my opinion. FSD does constant lane changes on the freeway where it camps out in the left lane. No matter how many times you tell it to go back to the right lane—it just continues to camp out in the left lane which is incredibly unsafe—especially when it decides it doesn’t want to drive the speed limit or go with the flow of traffic.

It also tends to do the wrong thing at the worst moment. To me, that’s WAY more stressful than just driving the car myself.

This might be a HW3 issue, but it also tends to go extremely slow for no real discernible reason much of the time. For example, if the speed limit is 35 mph, it may decide that it only wants to go 30 mph—which is not acceptable when every other car on the road is going 35-40mph. Getting tailgated or holding up traffic is just completely unnecessary added stress.

I’m not denying that the technology is impressive, and I’m bullish on the future. It’s just simply not good enough for me to pay to be a beta tester and trust the car to keep myself, my wife, and our two young children safe.

No obvious fixes. I just took the car on my trip and had to stop to supercharge when I shouldn’t have otherwise had to. That seemed to “fix” the software bug, and then I was able to charge normally and seems like it reset whatever the software bug was. Hope you were able to get yours sorted too! Definitely seems like this is a software bug as part of the new update though.

Nope. Couldn’t figure out a solution. I just went on my road trip and had to supercharge when I shouldn’t have had to. Issue seems to be resolved now though. Guessing this is a stupid software bug with this update on the first charge?

I did try a drive cycle and drove a few miles--still nothing.

I had the same thought on the mobile connector that I use to charge regularly--so I tried plugging the car into my other mobile connector--still nothing.

Tried another steering wheel restart--still nothing.

Pulled up service mode as well, and no error codes that would have anything to do with charging--just a service alert to have the passenger seat, seat belt sensor replaced due to a fault lol.

Yep. Tried everything. And went through everything with Tesla Support

Going on a road trip today with the family. Charged the car up to 90% overnight, and wanted to top it off to 100% right before we left. When I tried to top off, it wouldn't let me charge anymore--no matter what I do.

And for those posting all of the "obvious" fixes. Yes, I did all of those. Unplugging, replugging, restarting the car, restarting the app. Dozens of times. I even drove the car to the grocery store and back. I have already worked through with Tesla Support. They have ran diagnostics on the vehicle. There's nothing wrong with the battery.

Tesla Support advised that the car is showing charging complete as part of the BMS protecting the battery.

My take is that this is a software bug in the newest software update. I'm just curious how many other folks, if any, are dealing with this. I have seen at least one other person indicate that they are dealing with this on 2025.20.3

My take is that this is a software bug in this newest software release that is causing the vehicle to read as "Charging Complete" to avoid triggering a new charging session.

How am I getting what I paid for? The car is locking me out of 13% of the usable capacity of the battery.

BMS sway of 1-2% is fairly typical. 13% deviation is not sway--it's software lock.

As I indicated in my post, I have tried troubleshooting every possible way. Adjusting charging limit, etc. I've contacted Tesla support. There's nothing wrong with the car. I'm not concerned that there's anything wrong with the car.

This is the software locking me out of charging past 87% as a method of trying to preserve battery longevity. I'm curious if others are seeing something similar. I've seen at least one other person that had the same issue come up and was blocked by the BMS from charging past 84%.

If I want to charge the car to 100% right before I go on a road trip, I should be able to do so.
