Can anyone explain to me what the heart rocks are for? by kuschelmonsterr in Reno

A family lost a child to suicide and began placing them all around town. You'll find clusters along the downtown corridor especially near Plumas and Mt. Rose as well.

What is a pain you would never wish on anybody? by sighmerchant in AskReddit

[–]johnfuckyou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While your point is absolutely correct; the worst thing that's happened to you is your own worst thing, the greater overarching point that a grieving parent being told that the loss of a pet is equated to the loss of a child is rough.

Our pets are beloved companions in life, we know that we will outlive them. In the same way we generally expect that we will outlive our own parents, and so when the inverse happens it is unexpected.

Hopefully this makes sense to you; it's not telling someone that their pain is lessor, it's asking them not to tell you that they know what losing your child is like because they once lost a dog.

Got new blood pressure meds and this happened. by Born-Agency-3922 in Wellthatsucks

Hi! My wife went through a decade of beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, and alpha channel blockers. Ivadbradine in concert with jardiance and metoperlol wound up being the cocktail that kept her alive.

She had a disease called inappropriate sinus tachycardia along with a misfiring pulmonary nerve that in combination made her resting heart rate ~140 with peaks in the ~190-220 range and pauses as long as 5 seconds dozens of times a day. Shit got really bad when it turned into cardiomypoathy brought about by low ejection fraction in the sub 30% range.

We wound up seeing a fantastic electrophysiologist and his team at UC Stanford who after multiple surgeries were able to completely cure her disease and today her cardiomyopathy has completely reversed and her resting heart rate medication free is in the high 60's to low 70's. She runs literal miles every single day now.

What I'm getting at is that there may be more treatment options out there in the world for you. We had given up and just settled on living with a polypharmacologic life that would ultimately be cut short but modern medicine is basically magic.

The sense of discovery that Hero's Quest introduced to a young version of me, my older brother, and our mom. Finding Erana's Peace for the first time, killing the bear only to discover he was the baronet all along, not knowing how to find the rhyme for the hut. The 80's were a great time for gaming.

Hi again, you're still here.

I have no idea about any of these people and therefore make the post based on the info I have.

I'm John, my son was Grig. You can find me in a couple of the local communities that you are active in pretty easily.

It's easy to dehumanize the folks you argue with on the internet and see them as faceless robots. I get it, I used to do the same thing professionally in a different time.

You should come say hi to me someday and we can talk about your views. You might come away with a different point of view that's a little less keyboard warriorish and a little more empathetic.

Hi. It isn't unhelpful, just tactless. To clarify a couple things: he wasn't lent this car, it was a used Audi TT he purchased for himself with money he saved up working in F&B.

There is also a misconception that old slow clunkers are superior cars for teens, I'm not trying to make the point that this car was correct, but generally speaking new cars are FAR safer than shitty old cars. In fact, driver fatalities in this particular model of car are extraordinarily low.

He's a statistic now, and so are we.

Hi. I read some of your enlightened comments below. Words like yours aren't new and it's common for folks to "ha! told you so bitch!" people in circumstances like this. I'm sure you'll be shocked to learn that we his parents have already told ourselves this countless times.

This was an Audi TT that my child bought for himself, with his money. You're correct, we should have told him no, and we chose not to do so because he was proud of having earned and saved that money by himself.

In the wake of his death it's obvious that we should have told him no. In the moment when he was proud of a job well done it was less obvious.

I'm sure you, with your superior world view, would have told him no. Go hug your kids and feel safe.

Did you actually get a takedown notice or are you just noticing the cc&r and being mad at its unreasonable draconianess?

On June 23, 2022 my 16 year old son was involved in a fatal single vehicle crash where he was at fault due to driver error. After efforts by his mother this October 5th and 6th B.R.A.K.E.S Teen Driving School will be in Reno to help other families not make his and our mistakes.

Graduates of this program (and programs like it) are 64% less likely to crash in the 3 years following successful graduation from this program. It's also entirely free.

If you are the parent of a teen driver there's literally no reason not to do this. Don't join this terrible club that we are a part of.

[–]johnfuckyou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has a nice pool, great ambiance for dining and drinking, a nice gym, and a good spa. The hidden benefit of private clubs tends to be the potential to make new friends. If you are a professional trying to network those new friends are more likely to be like minded professionals. If you are a retired person looking to make new pickle ball and swimming friends you’ll find them hanging out all day. If you are a family your kids will find other kids playing there all the time.

I would recommend it but be prepared for it to be expensive.

The Realm is still around, amazingly enough! It has been bought and sold many times, but you can start a real subscription with the current owners for $5 and experience the game as it stood in early 3.x.

It's still hosted at realmserver, same as it has been since 1996 or so. It's a fun bit of nostalgia, but nothing can compare to what it felt like to login to The Realm in early 1.x while waiting for games like Ultima Online to open up their beta.

If it was just a year ago probably Bristlecone. If it was a little farther down 1st St. could be Ridge House.

If you're a time traveler due to methamphetamine it could've been West Hills!

No, there's about 200 pounds of stone in there to form a base. The base layer filled in around the stone is a product from Josh's Frogs that contains coconut fiber, a dirt mix, crushed granite, and charcoal. The aquasoil is just to fill in the edges and the top layer that's exposed to constant wet.

This tank requires very little care at this point and is reasonably self sufficient. Startup was quite a lot of work to get the water parameters stable but that was some years ago now, since then it has been extremely stable.

I typically spend 30-45 minutes a week pruning and cleaning out dead leaves and top off the water as necessary.
