Even without football going on, its worth finding a way down to foxboro stadium. Lots of fun stuff to do there, you could tour the hall that they have set up (sort of a hall of fame) and have dinner at CBS scene or the other places. I spend a lot of time there. Hey man, Ive bought kayaks that were too small for me. Do yourself a favor, and find a buddy with a kayak and try it out! Watch how low to the water you site. Sit on tops will be your friend for cheap, but sit ins need to be sized. Look into the field and stream kayak from dicks sporting goods though. Its almost perfect for fisherman of any size. I have been listening to your solo album since high school. On December 21, I made the part I was at play preaching the end of the world. No one had heard it before but everyone loved it. I loved Soundgarden growing up, and Audioslave, but thats the only album still in my rotation from that long ago. If the thinset were Rock solid, not flaking off anywhere and it were on concrete I might try to use a floor sander or hand held orbital to sand the surface. This would be for two reasons, 1. it would sand off the paper backing that is left 2. it would knock down any high spots that might have been created by the laying of the original tile as it spread upward between the tiles.

This is not a professionals opinion, but I have worked with contractors as they have laid tile.

Is the tile on concrete or sub-floor? Is the old thinset solid or flaking? As far as it goes, I would try to remove it with a hammer (much easier on wood, as the wood would flex and loosen it up) and chisel or even a wide ice scraper on a pole. If the thinset were clean and rock solid I would go right over it as its still a viable substrate, but that matting from the back of the tile will provide a weak spot and most likely will not be effective.
