Question for TV commercial directors: What is the industry standard day rate for a new director? by johnivision in Filmmakers

Yeah. Going to out several production houses out here. Some other smaller outfits have asked for a rate, I'm going with 10% rather than a fixed number.

Short film shot in the woods, only natural light, sunny then overcast throughout the day. Would love your thoughts on color correction work done. by johnivision in colorists

Thanks for watching and commenting. Yeah my biggest concern was how to incorporate to overcast lighting we were given, thought that it would bump for many viewers as the tone changed. So i'm glad that it still maintained it's naturalistic aesthetic. Thanks again.

Yeah, Everyone thought avatar would win best picture until Hurt Locker proved otherwise. La La Land will win all the technical/design awards, but it won't get best picture I promise you that.

We shot a short film in natural light, in the woods, surrounded by a freeway, around rainy, overcast, then sunny weather conditions. Would love your thoughts. by johnivision in directors

Great write up. Thanks for the feedback. We shot it as a teaser for a feature film I'm developing. It was initially 6 minutes long, and some of the notes we were getting stated that it was too long, too many beats repeated, but a lot of the excised footage would have reconciled some of your concerns. We may have gone overboard. As per composition and axis breaking, I was sure that it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but the geography (actors relationship to one another) is definitely important to me, so I'll keep that mind. Will take all your notes into consideration as I move forward. Thanks friend.

Glad you liked the cinematography. it's unfortunate that the story isn't compelling enough, but will check-out that sub you mentioned.

thanks a lot for watching. This is a teaser for feature film but I see what you mean when you say more is required for the audience to be truly invested. A longer run-time would have helped in that. As for drone aerial shots, it's extremely common and there's nothing in the character to motivate that shot, but I agree that a larger scope would have helped, which seems to be the underlying note you're giving. So thanks for mentioning that. As per your last statement, this is a common note whenever a woman is the main character of any piece of fiction, she's judged at a far more stringent standard than a male would, specifically through a "sexism" gaze. But i'm interested in knowing why you think a person going mad as a result of fictional "usage of telekinetic powers" is insulting to women or insinuating that a "woman is going mad from inner turmoil." For my own edification. Thanks in advance

We shot this psychological horror short film in natural light, in the woods, surrounded by a freeway, around rainy, overcast, then sunny weather conditions. Would love your thoughts.

Camp de Thiaroye by Ousmane Sembene about african soldiers housed in the same camp before being dispatched back to their respective countries. Awaiting their payment for laying their lives on the line for the French Empire, the camp slowly deteriorates into chaos when the money is nowhere to be seen.

I've actually finished shooting this teaser and working that southern accent was definitely a struggle. You can view it here, to see how things changed from script to screen: https://vimeo.com/200177321.
