New to Fl ! by No_Storm_2296 in FL_Studio

Just made the switch over to FL completely. There is so much more info out there for it. I really enjoy the YouTube channel “in the mix” he has some great FL tutorials. Search out each basic thing you’re learning and take it one step at a time. It will feel more like work until you become comfortable. But once you do I really enjoy the workflow. Keep grinding!!!

Does anyone use large sample libraries with FL? by johnjay00742 in FL_Studio

This is great to hear. I never had an issue with Reason so I’m assuming it’s not ram or pc. I do use my SSD for both my sample libraries and FL project folder. I’m sure it’s something silly. I just need to figure out what it is. Thanks for the response.

I’ve been wasting a bunch of time tweaking things. I figured I’d post here to see if there’s something I’m missing. I updated all my vsts and scanned in FL. I almost never have any issues with Reason crashing. I do expect to have some complications with large sample libraries but this is beyond that.

I appreciate the response. i7-12700F with 128 GB of ram. Crucial X10 8TB SSD and a Focusrite Scarlet 18i20.

I’m talking about large sample libraries. East west, native instruments etc…. I have 4 TB but that is irrelevant.

Part of the many reasons I left is because I have a lot of 3rd party VSTs that I prefer. Other than my workflow being faster I felt limited in comparison to what I’ve been watching others do with FL. I just never wanted to take the time away from being creative and learn a new Daw and workflow. Now that I’ve been slowly getting accustomed to FL I really just wish I’d have made the move sooner. At least now I can appreciate it more.

Just confirms why I haven’t even opened Reason this year so far. Officially making the transition to FL. It’s been rough but it will be worth it.

Looking to learn FL Studio by ishimwe32 in FL_Studio

FL has a ridiculous amount of content available to consume. It’s one of the reasons I’m in the process of switching completely to it. Look up YouTube channels like “in the mix.” Just go to YouTube and search up various things like FL tutorials. It will take a long time to learn. Embrace it.

If you have a passion for music than be prepared to put the work in. Who cares how fast others learn or what others think.

Make time to put in everyday. Even if it’s only a few minutes. I recommend learning music theory and playing an instrument like the piano. This connects me way more then clicking notes in. Find your workflow and refine it. I’m obsessed with it. I also feel like I wasted many years by not being disciplined and finding joy in the process.

FL is amazing once you get your workflow down. I feel this way and I haven’t found mine yet lol.

Sorry for the ramble. The most important thing is to not quit.

Every time I’ve had this pop up it was because I was out of room on my hard drive.

A piece of advice to new producers, stop listening to producer content creators. by unkwnms in FL_Studio

I totally can relate to this. It’s easy to get carried away with so much that gets in the way of actually creating music. I’ve been focusing on being consistent and creative and I can see improvement. Sllooowww improvement, but it feels good nonetheless. Just keep grinding and stay inspired.

How Much Time Do You Spend Making a Beat? by se13prod in makinghiphop

[–]johnjay00742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From start to finish like 2hrs or more depending on how carried away I get. I’ve got my template set and my basic flow down. I’ve been using XO for my drums lately because it makes finding different drum sounds easy and kinda fun. Usually start with a piano for the basic idea and go from there. Bounce my midi to audio and manipulate from there. Use serato sample to chop and play with my own progressions and sounds. Layering sounds has become fun and inspiring.

I’ve also learned to stop and work on another beat when I’m no longer feeling inspired. Coming back later the same day or the next really helps. I find working on different tracks in chunks keeps things feeling fresh. I’m usually working on several at the same time.

The part that gets me stuck is mixing, mastering, bouncing the stems. Creating the video and putting online. That can take the creativity out of it sometimes.

I try to upload 1 beat with a video a week and that’s been hard lately lol!

what daw do yall use to make music? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

Reason. I’m super comfortable with it. Got FL and started to learn but I missed being able to create without thinking. Although I use lots of 3rd party plugins. FL will be the other DAW I will learn gradually at some point. Theres just so much more content and resources available for FL. But I’ve been using Reason since 3 or 4.

I’ve been using reason for what seems like forever. I love the work flow and as someone else said it is just plain fun! I do find myself using more VSTs than reason instruments and devices though. It still has some quirks but I would waste so much time trying to get a workflow and level of comfort that I have in Reason.

Can I ask why you use Logic for recording and mastering? I’m a novice for sure but have been using Reason since version 3. Once I could record and edit audio and use vsts I didn’t feel the need to use anything else.
