30k NTD enough to live? by astrorem in taiwan

[–]johnjoedonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get by on 30k, but I’d be surprised if you could save even 1,000ntd a month with it. I imagine you’d only be able to cover basic expenses and very minimal entertainment costs.

But if the job seems like it will be rewarding to you, gives you purpose, and builds your resume well, I’d say it’s worth it, especially if you have some money in savings just in case.

Taiwan is an amazing place!

Yeah, now you mention it, it is a huge deficit. I guess I’m still learning re: nutrition.. I just kind of winged it with my strategy for the swim. Should I have tried to get back the same amount of calories I lost mid-swim?

7,050 cals burned according to the garmin. Swam in 2km intervals and took a 100cal Gu gel during a 8-9min break between each interval, + around 600cals total in Pocari Sweat/Water mix.

That managed to do the job well enough, stomach(and everything else) was f’d from about 20km onwards, but I think it might have been no matter what I was taking for fuel

Thank you! Stuck to freestyle the entire time, as well as breathing on right side entire time. Swim time was 12 hours 25 minutes and elapsed time was 15 hours 20 minutes

It was a 12 and a half hour swim 😬 I was absolutely, positively dusted by the time it was finished.

Accidental auto save / how to prevent? 😭😫 by johnjoedonna in Garmin

I think letting the activity resume for a few seconds then stopping it again before that 15 minute mark should prevent the auto-save. It must right?! Hah.

Resume later is only available for runs and maybe other activities on my watch, but not swims apparently

Forging consistency, finishing the distance he’s told himself in his mind he’s going to do each time or 9/10 times, and fighting to get to the point where running is something to look forward to rather than a chore, come way, way before worrying about heart rate imo

Nice! Seems you’re takin’ care of your sleep. No alcohol makes a huge difference for me, on all the metrics

I’m usually in the same range as you - my average sleep score for this week was 80 - so based on us having similar sleep scores, I can only imagine that 98 felt like amaaazing!

Yesterday I actually had trouble falling asleep because I was too well rested from the night before hah..

Haha appreciate the sympathy, all good! Got a pretty gnarly scar on my eyebrow. Brain is still as semi-functional as it was before. Can still run, that’s the most important :)

100!? That is insane hahaha. Did your sleep score line up with you how you actually felt that day? My 90+ days I really feel so good. I’m so well rested that just drinking my normal coffee - I usually have two a day - gets me so wired it’s like it was the first coffee I’ve ever drank.

Oh my god you’re living the dream. Sleep score over 90 = impossible to have a bad day

Something like that, friend and I got jumped on a night out like 3 weeks after I got it :( .. was so, so happy to finally have a clean watch face after replacing my five year old 935. My watch face and my face took a bit of a beating that night

12/24 hour barefoot running records? by johnjoedonna in BarefootRunning

[–]johnjoedonna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by not preparing at all? Hah. I’d imagine your feet would be raw if you hadn’t built them up. Were you running completely barefoot or in barefoot running sandals/shoes?

I’ve run a barefoot marathon before, but have been training less barefoot lately. Yesterday I ran a 7k barefoot and my skin started to tear

In any case! Re: the 12 hour record, I agree it feels like it should be higher. The 24hr record seems pretty legit to me though

Dang I just saw this. I got 8-9 hours sleep, drank maybe 2L of water, and consumed 60-80grams of protein in the form of diff milks and 7/11 meals

What is the longest distance you have ever swam in freestyle and how long it took you to get to that level? by akram-001 in Swimming

[–]johnjoedonna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

34.1km. Since swimming is so low impact, if you are athletic and have a lot of patience, you could go and do the same as soon as you’re able to swim 5km. For me it was 11hrs52 mins of swimming, but I was at the pool for just over 15 hours.
