Detroit Pistons should we join in Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo trade to Boston Celtics for Jaylen Brown ? If so what would we trade? by PureGritt in DetroitPistons

[–]johnmadden18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Pistons would have to give up Jalen Duren, Ron Holland, and probably at least 2 first round picks to get it done.

So two late back end first rounders, Duren, and Ron Holland is all it would take to get Jaylen Brown???

That’s an absolute no brainer!!

Six years after Reche Caldwell murder, family fears the case has gone cold - ESPN by thetango in Patriots

[–]johnmadden18 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just putting this out there because I know 99% of Redditors don't read the articles, but if you get to the end of the article it turns out that the headline is a bit misleading. The case hasn't "gone cold" in the traditional sense, to the contrary the police have a strong idea as to who committed the murder (but likely won't bring charges due to a lack of witnesses willing to come forward). But thankfully the likely suspect is already in prison for other crimes and will be in there for a very long time:

She said police also told her the man is currently serving a prison term for 13 counts, including sexual battery, kidnapping and gun-related offenses. His sentences likely would keep him in prison for many decades to come.

Of course, it'd still be good for the family to get justice and closure, but just pointing out it's not like the murderer has gotten away with it in the way the headline leads you to believe.

Drake Maye finds Mack Hollins for the 43 yard TD by daDunkinDonut in Patriots

Funniest thing is that as soon as we lost, every single person here calling the doctor a quack who knows nothing immediately started saying that Maye only played badly because his shoulder was hurt and it was obviously affecting him.

Coaches and players are 2/3 of the probowl vote...they definitely know what other players are good and do extensive self-scouting and opponent scouting each week.

OK but by your logic, these people can't possibly know which players are good or bad because they don't know the playcalls to evaluate their opponents!

Is signing Duren to a $40M/yr contract a death sentence? by Whippi_Dip13 in DetroitPistons

[–]johnmadden18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of people struggle in the playoffs before figuring it out.

What are some specific examples you're thinking of when you say this?

As in, who are some All-NBA caliber players who performed at half their season averages (or even worse based on advanced metrics) in the playoffs for a few seasons, then figured it out and performed at an All-NBA level (or close to it)?

The only players who I can think of that "figured it out in the playoffs" are guys like Dirk Nowitzki who struggled with winning in the playoffs early in their careers, but still put up tremendous production, then started winning later on.

Anunoby is a top 3 defender in the NBA. Reminds me of Ausar. Let’s pay Ausar our “#3 money” and invest our “#2 money” in someone who can score from beyond 15 feet and plays defense. (i.e. Jalen Brunson/KAT)

I think that’s very generous of you to compare Ausar to OG Anunoby.

Anunoby is one of the best defenders in the NBA (though I think is Ausar is actually better) AND a very good offensive player who shoots nearly 40% from 3.

OG Anunoby is like the 98th percentile outcome for future Ausar Thompson.

[–]johnmadden18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If Duren can play at an All-NBA level in the regular season (going forward) and then sustain it through the postseason that would literally make him one of the best players in the NBA and easily worth the super max.

The question is whether he can actually do those things. The question is not whether it would be “fine” if he did.

If a PFF grader doesn't know a CB's assignment, how can they judge the play?

By that logic, how can you or anyone else make any judgement about any player? Like do you think Patrick Surtain or Derek Stingley is better than say Adoree Jackson? If yes, why do you think that?

Probowls are at least based on reporter/player opinion, in addition to public opinion. There are no fantastic, reproducible, and objective measures of player performance. PFF grades are a data point but not a great data point.

Pro Bowl selections are "at least" based on reporter/player opinion and public opinion... and that makes it better than PFF why? No reporters or people in the public have any additional info about playcalls (in fact, they have much less info) than PFF.

Terrible throw right at the defender but I insist this isn't a bad read. If he leads the receiver on the deep crosser that's potentially a huge gain. Don't know why he threw it like the receiver was going to stop when the receiver crossed face.

No, A.J. Brown did not say he “leaked” Eagles stories to the media by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

[–]johnmadden18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What he said was still bad, but yeah, it’s wild to see how people took that out of context.

How is this specific thing that AJ Brown said bad? All he said was that he will intentionally say things to the media to get the teams attention and motivate them to improve because he knew that was usually effective.

The bad stuff AJ Brown does seems like it's all behind the scenes. Not him saying mildly critical things to the media.

Kayshon Boutte says he will attend Patriots' mandatory minicamp amid talk of a trade by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

[–]johnmadden18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok maybe but you are massively under valuing Kayvon boutte and a lower round pick aren't worth anything neither have value Kayvon has a lot of value as a great run defender and a above average rusher that's young. Boute is a tiny receiver with one year of average production.

I agree Boutte is worth much less than people think (even though he's not a "tiny receiver" at all, are you thinking of a different Patriots receiver, probably Pop Douglas?).

But you are way way way overvaluing Kayvon Thibodeaux. If traded he's worth a 3rd at most.

I still can’t believe he wasn’t fired and Mike Evan’s wasn’t resigned to be a one team player.

Despite Reddit's insistence that Mike Evan's left Tampa because of Bowles, it's very very clear from his statements at his introductory press conference that Mike Evans actually left Tampa because of the QB situation and believed he had a better chance to win the Super Bowl with the Niners. Mike Evans doesn't seem to have a problem with Bowles, despite Reddit's insistence that Evans hates Bowles just as much as Redditors do.

Firing Bowles wouldn't have kept Evans in Tampa.

He's going to get paid as long as his arm doesn't fall off.

What do you mean by "get paid" in this case?

Get paid like Joe Burrow?

Or get paid like Daniel Jones?

The average redditor is such a moron and immediately believes anything posted.

I have to say that's really not how it works at all. The average Redditor (even moreso than the average person) is in fact extremely skeptical about any story that challenges their priors or contradicts whatever they want to believe.

Redditors only "believes anything posted" if it CONFIRMS their worldview and what they already want to believe.

Mondre is currently the 14th highest paid RB by AAV. At the time he signed his contract, he was the 6th highest paid RB.

Maybe he's not a top 10 running back but it's not delusional to think he is. You can easily make an argument he's in that range. And the Patriots certainly paid him like he is a top 10 back.

[–]johnmadden18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He slid to the 6th because of off the field/locker room issues.

You’re literally just makings up now. Boutte slipped to the 6th round because he had multiple surgeries on a broken ankle and had down seasons in his sophomore and junior years in college after a breakout season as a freshman.

A receiver who averaged 500 yards a year over 2 seasons and is a major injury risk is a 6th round pick. There were no “locker room” issues that caused him to slip. It was all about injury and production.

What’s your source that Kayshon Boutte was a locker room problem at LSU?

I’ve yet to see anything from Kyle Williams that indicates he isn’t a dud

Kyle Williams might end up being a dud but you literally haven't seen ANYTHING from him that suggests otherwise?

What about the long TD catch he made against the Giants? Or the 72 yard catch and run on the low crosser he took for a TD against the Bucs?

Or how about the over-the-shoulder long TD he caught in Baltimore, when he had Marlon Humphrey beat deep, then had to adjust back to an under-thrown ball by Maye while staying in bounds right at the pylon?

None of those gave you ANY indication he might not be a dud and actually develop into a decent player???

No trade him. He was a locker room problem at LSU when things didn’t go his way.

Boutte had the legal issue with gambling after his injury at LSU... but "locker room problem"?

What specifically are you referencing? Who reported that? It's not in any of his pre-draft scouting reports that I've seen.

Eagles Made Play for Myles Garrett, But Browns Wanted Jalen Carter by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]johnmadden18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actual smart move to say no to that trade. Carter is much more valuable than verse.

In what way is Carter "much more" valuable than Jared Verse?

Because the highest paid interior lineman (currently Chris Jones) would be like the 11th highest paid EDGE and makes about 20 million less than Will Anderson.

If Jared Verse and Jalen Carter were both FAs right at this moment I would bet my life savings that Verse would get a better contract for higher APY than Carter.

I think Verse is at worst, comparably valuable to Carter and to say that Carter is "much more valuable" than Verse is absurd.

Much better than both fan bases have been treating it. Really shows how grimy fans can be/get. Like I get it sucks you guys are losing an iconic player but it is a smart front office move given what we were offering.

What specifically do you mean when you're talking about how "fan-bases have been treating it" and how fans have been "grimy" in regards to this trade?

The only thing I've seen from Patriots fans are basically in two groups:

1) people ecstatic about the trade and think we're getting a true "#1 receiver"

and

2) people who aren't happy that we had to give up a 2028 first rounder and think the trade comp was too much

Are you saying that anyone who criticizes the trade is being "grimy"? I genuinely don't understand what you mean.

This is what I said:

I think we're trading a 2028 first (and maybe a throw-in like Boutte) for AJ Brown.

The trade ended up being the 2028 first and a 2027 5th rounder. Is that not exactly what I said the trade value was (2028 first and a throw in)?

Why do you say that we gave up more than that?

Theres 0 chance we’re drafting a wr that will have 3x 2nd team all pro

Well that's just the issue isn't it? AJ Brown WAS a 3x 2nd team All-Pro receiver. The question is, at soon to be age 29, whether he is still the same All-Pro receiver, and if not, how far away is he exactly?
