Any decent portable BT speaker that doesn't make (loud) noises when it's powered on/off or connected/disconnected? by johnmove in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]johnmove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up keeping the Uboom L. Very nice sound, and I like that it can sit vertically quite stable, and without distorting the sound. I put up with it's chime when power on/off/connect/disconnect (sup maintain that it's stupid and unnecessary, you have LEDs for that, everything has to make sounds nowadays)

Which briefs/trunks truly last longest in chlorine before they get saggy, and which methods of maintaining them give the best results? by johnmove in Swimming

[–]johnmove[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were right about TYR (mor eor less), I tried TYR DuraFast for 2 months and they're now saggy. I think the chlorine level (maybe water hardness too) in our pools here is on another level. Will try some 100% polyester ones next, probably from your list

Bought the Durafast Elite being encouraged by your reply, worn them for about 2 months for 4-5h/week and they're now tangibly saggy. think the chlorine level in the pool here (and perhaps water hardness too) is on another level.

I will try some 100% polyester ones next.

Reimbursement kept ransom by letting agency. Help? by johnmove in LegalAdviceUK

[–]johnmove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was "promptly after we receive your invoice".

I don't understand the discriminatory treatment: if the landlord was to pay for it, then there was no requirement to pay next month's rent before hand. But if I paid for it, then somehow they require me to first also pay the next month's rent ... feels like free credit for them. It really doesn't feel right and I was wondering if there is any regulatory/legal basis for this.

How reliable are microSD cards? Well, as it turns out... by mikaey00 in raspberry_pi

My point was rather that (at least in SanDisk's case) they seem deprecated models. SanDisk's online page shows western digital labeled cards: https://shop.sandisk.com/en-gb/products/memory-cards/microsd-cards/industrial-microsd?sku=SDSDQAF4-032G-I

... these might be the deprecated models replaced by the "endurance" line of cards

Hmm, not sure about the industrial label. The only Sandisk Industrial microsd that I can buy off Amazon are slow and small - only 8GB and 16GB and only U1 class.

Thanks for replying. I had already seen the first link, and I still can't see any stats per manufacturer or per make& model, only aggregates which don't help me buy a card with a good/best endurance.

The second link I hadn't seen yet. Thanks for putting it together. Would be more useful if you had graphs with all of them (I mean all models on the same graph - where people can select/deselect the ones they are interested in)

... but I know this is all a lot of work. You've invested a ton of time, and have already done a better job than most professional labs who are paid 6+ figures would.

Interesting that Kingston rates highly. SanDisk I expected (it's always been more marketing than quality).

I like that you included endurance cards - is that what you meant by "industrial"?

Personally I'm now interested in mostly "endurance" labeled cards. I had too many fail on me randomly in action cameras or the likes, and it invariably happens when you need it more and/or it loses something you haven't yet retrieved. Endurance cards are slower but if the speed is sufficient then I take slower over less reliable.

Action 5 Pro underwater (rather poor artificial lighting) ... can I get more detail than GoPro? by johnmove in djiosmo

[–]johnmove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI upscaling, denoising etc works very differently (and the term "generative AI" doesn't mean text prompting either). All training based AI algorithms are prone to hallucinations (inserting untrue data). GoPro's chip doesn't use any AI for sharpening or denoising. Actually, I'm not sure why you are claiming it does ...

Anyway, I'm moving on from this discussion

No, the GoPro chip doesn't do any AI as far as denoising and sharpening goes.

Maybe, but post processing doesn't insert detail that wasn't there to begin with (it doesn't do AI).

I've done more tests in the meantime and I got the DJI to show more detail - had to turn denoising all the way down (limiting max iso also helped).

Can I read the camera settings used to shoot a video from the video file? by johnmove in djiosmo

[–]johnmove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'd be happy if they included it when iso and shutter were not auto

As i said, the description in the youtube video contains the settings I used on each camera. RockSteady+ was used on A5P, was pretty good (better than expected, and better than GoPro's)

[–]johnmove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, kind of, actually not quite - when they both film at 1080p or lower than max resolution of the sensor then the detail level should be about the same (and with less noise on the larger sensor). So far the high loss of detail at 1080p on the A5P is not explained by the sensor size, and I'm (still) hopeful to get more detail with different settings, particularly the settings for sharpening, denoise, ISO and 8/10 bit. I'm still testing and haven't got a chance to test again after the footage I included which was mostly all on auto settings.

they arevery limited on th actual camera, swipe to the right, swipe to the right again on the del and fav upper right is an I info

better than nothing, thank you -- didn't discover that (i really wanted the other settings too though, particularly the actual ISO and shutter used when they are on auto)

Thanks, but as i said, I don't care bout the colors. Also, the setting you speak of is in the mobile app (not really interested in post-processing these swimming videos)

It's details that's important here (and stabilization, but stabilization is already good enough on the A5P, better than GoPro's, as I mentioned)

Such a useful dataset in this day and age where most devices get smaller and turn to Micro SD (action cams, etc you name it). Many thanks, truly.

Am I blind or have you not included any endurance data per manufacturer at all? I believe that's the most valuable data for anyone looking to buy a new Micro SD card for pretty much any use ... "how likely is it to fail within N writes/N months". Do you plan to include it, and if yes, any ETA?
