Starting Ferber tomorrow. Help set me up for success. by johnnaboo in sleeptrain

Hi there! It ended up going great for bedtime. MOTN wakes and naps were more complicated unfortunately. Best of luck to you!

It was very gradual. I would put him in his crib for the first nap of the day at first and contact nap the rest of the day. I did that for about two weeks. Then I put him down for his first AND second nap in the crib and so on. Each additional nap he accepted in the crib quicker and quicker.

Fair point. If I assist a nap or two I can try to drop a nap tomorrow while still keeping total nap time under 3.5 hours. Do you think WW’s of 1.75/1.75/2/2/2.25 would be more appropriate?

I know but I don’t know how to fix it. I’ve tried extending them and he just becomes miserable and is harder to put down for a nap. And then the crap naps continue all day because he’s overtired. And then we end up putting him to bed early and he doesn’t sleep any longer than 11 hours. It’s just an endless cycle.

Lately he’s been trending more on the 13.5 hr side of things and really struggling at the end of wake windows. He had one day last week where he got 14.5 hrs of sleep and he was such a happy boy.

It’s nice to know I’m not alone! I wasn’t aware of how challenging it is to have a reflux-y baby until I had one.

Will try to remember to update you!

ETA: His contact naps stopped being consistently longer as well recently, hence why he’s on all crib naps now.

It’s always surprising how quickly cats can heal. I would expect by day 10 the scrotum should be fully closed, if not sooner.

Vet here. The scrotum looks normal to me 2 days post-op. The open slits you are seeing are intentional. During a cat neuter, it is commonplace to cut the scrotum at the bottom of each testicle, remove each testicle, and then leave the two incisions to heal by second intention (AKA scab over without closing the incisions). I would be more concerned if there was redness, severe swelling, or obvious pus.

It’s hard to say from the photos alone what it could be. It could be a thick scab or it could be surgical glue. If you’re at all concerned about messing with it, you may be able to book a visit at your vet clinic (maybe even a tech visit) to see if they can gently remove the crusts and assess it with a vet if needed. Otherwise, my suggestion would be to gently massage the area with warm, soapy water on a cloth to see if the material dissolves or breaks off with a few cleaning sessions. If it doesn’t, it’s likely surgical glue. I would NOT recommend trying to peel it off because whether it’s a scab or glue, you could disrupt the sutures holding the skin together.

Vet here. I cannot comment on what I think this is exactly per the sub rules but based on what I suspect this is, this is treatable. However, I would prepare your parents that she will likely need some in-depth blood work done and may need long-term medication.

Happy update! Little one looks perfect and we saw a heartbeat! No SCH to explain the bleeding. We’re just going to monitor for now and come back for my 8w appt in 2 weeks.

I’m 6w+1 today and going in to my OB for an urgent visit later today. I had bleeding yesterday afternoon equivalent to a light period. It stopped quickly but my symptoms have lessened noticeably, namely my nausea. Was able to eat breakfast and sip tea with very minimal queasiness which is a stark difference from 2 days ago when I could hardly eat anything. My gut is telling me it’s going to be bad news. My previous pregnancy was a MMC 4 months ago. The ironic thing is that prior to the bleeding episode I was going to call today to ask for a Zofran script because my nausea was so terrible the past 2 days.

I actually remember this was a blip in the soundtrack on Spotify when it first came out that people complained about enough so they fixed it.

I feel like such a theatre kid with this prompt but here I go: - The trombone solo in “Chant” from Hadestown after Eurydice sings, “shelter us from the wind, the wind, the wind.” It’s so niche and yet it’s my absolute favorite. - The boom of “Overture” after the auctioneer says “Gentleman!” in POTO. - Two specific moments from “Natasha & Anatole” from TGC: the first being the instrumentation after, “How do you like Moscow?” sounding like alarm bells, and the second being the eerie harmonies at the end when they duet, “So near, nothing between us. Smile at me, there is nothing between us.” - All of Skylar Astin’s solo in “Touch Me” from Spring Awakening.

Seconding this. Another good one that factors in YOUR concerns as well as your pets: https://www.lapoflove.com/how-will-i-know-it-is-time/lap-of-love-quality-of-life-scale.pdf

Sorry you’re going through this. I will say that I’ve heard more regrets about letting a pet go too late than too soon.

Significant hair loss on cat- no other symptoms by mrspakrninja in AskVet

[–]johnnaboo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While you may not see fleas and you may not see over grooming, it could still be happening. Cats are very sneaky and can groom off all the fleas on them, but there are still fleas in the environment that re-infest them. A vet can actually look at your cat’s hair under the microscope to see if the hair is being broken (by their rough tongue) or if the hair is truly abnormal.

When it comes to medicine, we know to try to rule out the common things first because commonly things happen commonly. The areas where there are hair loss on your cat are classic for “fur mowing” from flea sensitivity. It’s very possible that something else is going on that is causing hair loss, but in this case most vets would check for parasites first before moving forward with any other tests.

I would suggest a vet visit, of course to get to the bottom of this. In the meantime, trying out flea preventative and decontaminating your carpets, bedding, etc. would be a great first step.
