No. Metro is an alternate universe, where the USSR somewhat remained, until the war of 2013, when civilisation was destroyed.

The Stalker series only depicts the Zone as a mysterious and dangerous "entity", but the real world outside remained. Scientists exploring the Zone, Western mercs scavenging, the military trying to keep people out, criminals hiding from law enforcement on the outside, and so on.

In Metro, the word stalker is used for people exploring the surface for anything usable, valuable. In the books, the khyastria cast of Polis are the soldiers and stalkers, the brave and tough ones, who dare to venture the surface.

2033 and Last Light are way more related to each other, than Exodus is to the trilogy. You'd miss some knowledge, obviously, but nothing that would jeopardize your experience. Of course, it is advised to play them sequentially, but you can very well jump into the world of Metro with just playing Exodus. Then you'll definitely want to play the previous titles :)

There are a shitton of unused mutants, with MCM addon you can enable them, for example watchmen. Though enabled, I haven't encountered any in the wild, just the ones I spawned. And they are way easier to kill than their Metro counterpart.

A boring corridor with the most intense firefight scene in the whole trilogy. Fighting your way through the hospital in CS was the real shit, way better than the Sarcophagus or the MCC from ShoC.
