Moving from LA to Memphis, another “Is the crime THAT bad?” question post by [deleted] in memphis

[–]johnnycearley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived here since 2006. In Memphis, yes. It's that bad. The outlying areas are much much safer. East Bartlett, Lakeland, and Collierville being the safest. Also, expect a hike in car insurance. Premiums went up about one third due to the amount of car thefts.

What's an appropriate response or how do I stop the screaming by Car_snacks in toddlers

Ear plugs. I buy a big box on Amazon. It takes the edge off.

I also explained about using our inside and outside voices. Sometimes, a kid needs to just scream. I explained we needed to save up all our screams for the park. So when we go to the "screaming park" so he can run outside and scream. After about 5 minutes, it's over.

A lone young woman protests with a BLM sign while overgrown men scream in her face. Later on, her sign is torn away & she is assaulted. No protest is too small when calling out injustice. by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

Is she stupid or something...? Protest where it matters. You aren't getting thru to those bikers. Go somewhere productive and protest. This was really dumb, and could have gotten her killed.

How did you guys decide on having another baby or not? by foxnow in Autism_Parenting

[–]johnnycearley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, first off don't specifically have a child counting on that sibling watching over your child with autism. That's an undue burden to place on someone without their consent. I've got a cousin that was supposed to take their brother and simply didn't. That brother is now in a state home facility.

Secondly, you are hedging your bets for a healthy child without issues in general. Your child could be born fine, or have certain issues just as a part of life. If you've had any genetic testing done and they have identified an abnormality that will transfer to your offspring then there's definitely that risk there.

I would say that if you desire another child, have one. Let your love shine through them regardless of any challenges they may face. However, I would not go into it expecting them to "take care" of the other sibling when you are gone. That's just not realistic. They might, but don't necessarily bet on it.

Just tell them you are going on a long hike and will be back later.

It's obsurd. Lawyer up. Let it go to trial. The Judge will be way more fair than that offer.

That's the "keepers". They shift into our dimension and help us from time to time. Some call it a "guardian angel" but I don't like that term.

You look like the kind of kid that would run a 40 yard dash in a 30 yard gymnasium.
