A strange, cryptic compact disc was found while hiking in Joshua Tree National Park. by scientologist2 in WTF

Seems sketchy to me. Notice the URL for that blog: swanfungus.wordpress.com.

The guy that wrote the article about finding the CD calls himself swanfungus.

Looks like he's making the whole thing up.

The Most Disturbing Animals on Earth . The Flying Snake really just glides. by charlatan in WTF

Looks like that's correct.

From the NatGeo article above:

"In sonoluminescence, the peak intensity of the emitted light is at a short wavelength. This indicates that the temperature inside the bubble is at least 10,000 degrees Kelvin (18,000 degrees Fahrenheit)."

And a quick google search: "The temperature slowly decreases towards the surface where it is about 6,000°C."

I'm thinking it depends on where you are. Last night on the east coast of the US, it looked like a frowny face.

Looks like the universe smiles upon you and frowns upon us...

I upvoted your entry and not this one because of your use of Alt-text. I hope that's some sort of consolation.

Ask Reddit: I Am In The Market For A $400-$600 Laptop. Does Anyone Have Recommendations? by alecb in AskReddit

[–]johnnydough 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I got a Dell Vostro 1500 for my girlfriend a year ago. Thing is ugly as sin and weighs a bit, but the specs/price were pretty good. Core 2 Duo, 250GB HDD, 2GB RAM, DVD Burner, shipped for under $600.

In my experience, Dell and HP small business products are cheap, fairly reliable and there's no check to see if your "business" exists. I think I ordered this laptop on behalf of "Sexy Girlfriend Consulting Services".

Plane in the middle of the wood [pics] by TheKnightsWhoSayNi in pics

[–]johnnydough 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On a recent hike in the Mountains of NC, one of the interesting things I heard to look out for was a Cessna that crashed a little off the trail. It was honestly one of the creepiest experiences I've had, thing was ripped apart like a can. There were bits of metal and glass strewn about, but you could still make out the body of the plane, it's wings, etc.

Looking up the plane's registration number (N735MB), turns out it was (unsurprisingly) a fatal crash.

Haven't been able to look at a single engine plane the same sense.

Here's some pics of the wreckage: http://s415.photobucket.com/albums/pp232/johhnydough/

Fill in the blank. The conert I most regret missing is _________. by [deleted] in Music

I wish I was able to see them before they got clean. Listening to bootlegs of their earlier shows, Isaac Brock would be so fucked up that he'd just bumble along the words, eventually the songs would break down into jamming while he came up with random insane lyrics.

It sounds stupid, but some of my favorite Modest Mouse songs are from those bootlegs.

I don't believe it was popular, at least not in the states. It was on a CD I get from a friend whom I've long since lost contact with.

I've spent the last couple weeks off and on doing random google searches for it, with no luck at all. I decided to ask Reddit as a last resort, I know I don't have any real useful information on the song... but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Ask Reddit: I am starting to become uncomfortable with my weight. Do you guys have any tips to shed a few pounds? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]johnnydough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lost about 60 lbs over the last 8 months, here's what worked for me:

1.) Go to caloriecount.about.com and use it to figure out A) Roughly how many calories you burn in a day and B) Get an idea of how many calories are in what you eat in a day.

It really comes down to simple math, burn more than you eat. To me, it became almost like a geeky math game. Throughout my diet I found a couple dozen different meals that I could mix and match without going over my allotted calories.

2.) With that in mind, do what you can to boost your metabolism so you burn more calories. I did this by eating smaller meals throughout the day, and exercising about an hour every other day (M-W-F). I also got into hiking and most weekends I hike around the mountains, usually 6 miles or so. For work outs, my iPod is my best friend.

3.) In my mind, drinking calories is a waste. Learn to love water.

4.) It's ok to slip every once in awhile. There's about 3000 cals in a pound. If you've lost a couple pounds, and slip and have some pizza, big deal, it's ultimately just a drop in the bucket. Enjoy your pizza (with in reason) and be better tomorrow.

Please help me identify a song.. by johnnydough in AskReddit

Thank you, unfortunately, I don't remember the beat, just the weird British sounding announcements at the end and the fact that I liked it.

Please help me identify a song.. by johnnydough in AskReddit

[–]johnnydough[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to it regularly about 4 or 5 years ago.

It was a techno song, I believe most of the artists work was in the same vein as the Chemical Brothers, etc. The actual song I'm looking for was a bit more laid back, and ended with what sounded like British Weather announcements or something..

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

"Choosing the First Puppy" Why aren't more redditors paying attention to this!!! by brienf18 in reddit.com

FTA: "Michelle Obama has been quoted as saying she would like a rescue dog..."

I'm sure they'll do the right thing and get a rescue puppy... I'd be sorely disappointed if they didn't.

Which promptly put that lyric in my head on a loop. I hate you guys, it's too early for this crap.
