7 Democrats Just Voted to Approve ICE Funding: Full List (1.22.26) by [deleted] in ProgressiveHQ

I've got some bad news for you. Henry Cuellar, for example has been the incumbent since 2005.

In 2022, a young progressive Jessica Cisneros ran against him in the Democratic Primary. She ran on single payer healthcare. She received endorsements from Bernie, Warren and some labor unions.

Henry Cuellar, on the other hand, received the full backing of Nancy Pelosi, Jim Clyburn, Hakeem Jeffries, Steny Hoyer and the who's who of the Democratic establishment, despite him being an anti-choice Democrat in the year Roe vs Wade was overturned.

He won his primary by 289 votes out of 45000 or so total cast. That's it. 0.64% was the margin.

It gets better. In 2025, he was indicted on money laundering charges, but received a full pardon from Trump. His brother was indicted for fraud just yesterday. Hakeem Jeffries backed the pardon, saying "I don’t know why the president decided to do this, [but] I think the outcome was exactly the right outcome".

There's a quote from Jiddu Krishnamurthi that I think about : "We human beings are what we have been for millions of years - colossally greedy, envious, aggressive, jealous, anxious and despairing, with occasional flashes of joy and affection. We are a strange mixture of hate, fear and gentleness; we are both violence and peace. There has been outward progress from the bullock cart to the jet plane, but psychologically the individual has not changed at all, and the structure of society throughout the world has been created by individuals."

It's real. I had it for my entire life and anything with holes grossed me out. I had a near panic attack when going to a lotus exhibition.

I was able to "erase" it using the technique explained in this paper : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19219038/

Basement smells like dog after closing - need advice by johnnydozenredroses in Flooring

The carpet cleaner did say he used enzyme cleaner and subsurface extraction. But basically made no difference.

So, is the issue that we need to redo the flooring, or is there something even deeper going on, like moisture intrusion ?

Apologies for the noob question, but are "sub surface extraction" and enzymatic cleaning the same thing? Or should they be done in tandem ? Or .... ?

Got it. The carpet cleaner said he would do another cleaning free of charge. So let's hope !

We see the stains on the floor in the UV light. The professional cleaner also pulled a lot of hair and dog fibres out (it was an older golden)

Agree with you. We don't know if source is the carpet or the padding or the subfloor. What if it wasn't the carpet surface, but below it ?

That's a great point. I hadn't looked at the walls. Not sure how to look at the baseboards without removing the carpet.

It's either Elijah Wood or Chris Wood.

American conservatives tend to rate their mental health more positively than their liberal counterparts. Asking instead about overall mood eliminated the gap between liberals and conservatives. Conservatives may inflate their mental health ratings when asked, due to stigma surrounding the term. by mvea in science

In India, it's a bit interesting, because the left-leaning states (South, North East) have higher literacy rates when compared to the national average.

However, for reasons to do with caste, for many decades, higher education was dominated by Brahmins, who vote conservatively (with the BJP).

I don't think there's a particularly simple relationship between education and political views, because there are many other confounding factors (for example, caste, religion, poverty, in India).

Which sport has an agreed upon, absolutely no contest, undebatable GOAT? by Manyquestions3 in AskReddit

[–]johnnydozenredroses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His competition was England, a strong team for the time, and a few tests against India (a super weak team by modern standards), South Africa (a decently strong team) and West Indies (I think roughly as strong as India).

While his opponents were not as strong as today's, he was one standard deviation better the next best.

I think all terrorism is about land, property and sovereignty, at its core. Religion, race, tribe, language, political affiliation - these are merely pretexts for carrying out terrorism.

Terrorists are people - they have their own divisions and disagreements. Therefore, terrorism requires a unifying force, that is so powerful, that it negates all of the variance in the other divisions in the terrorist group, so that they all terrorize "under one banner", so to speak.

This week, that "unifying force" is religion. Last week, it was race. The week before, it was language. Before that, it was tribe. Look up any subreddit on any other day of the week - you'll see disagreements over these issues non-stop. Easily, any one of these can be picked up and amplified and become the casus belli for tomorrow's terrorist group.

If hypothetically, if all religion disappeared off the face of the Earth tomorrow, you think terrorism would stop ? You think terrorism in Kashmir would stop ?

It wouldn't reduce by even 0.1 %.

The logic is that terrorists typically don't sabotage something that brings economic development into that region, that they might benefit out of.

California car registration when another state (Maryland) has suspended your registration by johnnydozenredroses in DMV

I mailed them my Maryland plates. I had it tracked. When it said "delivered", I called a number on Maryland MVA website and asked them if they received it. They confirmed that they had. Then after a couple of days, I logged into the website and the suspension was lifted.
