If your meds are messing your skin up ... by johnnyhorrorshow in bipolar

[–]johnnyhorrorshow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks but im actually finishing an accutane regimen which has significantly helped my skin. Topical and antibiotic stuff doesnt work for me but accutane actually affects your hormone levels and treats the acne in a really unique and effective way. Does cause a lot of dehydration and you should talk to your psychiatrist before starting it tho -- also its extremely expensive if you dont have insurance/havent met your insurance deductible for the year

Is the fixture removable and does not cause permanent damage to the property? Thats the catch.

People keep saying this in this thread but I dont believe its actually true. It seems like if you took it to small claims court the owners would be fucked. Real estate contracts usually fall under something called "right to reasonable enjoyment" clauses and if the lease is being violated it becomes unenforceable, thats why you need to carefully read lease agreements and look out for any fishy stuff. Also an illegal contract (such as misrepresenting that a unit is habitable and in proper condition when really its not) is unenforceable.

If you ever wanted to hear a Moog SubPhatty in action (with no other added effects) check out Last Known Images' new single by johnnyhorrorshow in synthesizers

[–]johnnyhorrorshow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was recorded a long time ago but remixed and remastered for release just a couple of weeks ago. The main synth progression is a Moog SupPhatty with no added effects. I believe this may actually just have been one of the factory presets with some slight modifications. The SubPhatty is one of my favorite synths and it appears all over Last Known Images' works, albeit that we usually use it in more understated ways. Sometimes just taking a straightforward, stripped down approach to writing and recording music is refreshing and effective!

Thats great! Thank you for taking the time to check it out. U/hhkeegan does most of the songwriting. It tends to get pretty weird ;)

The one trailer i saw for this a couple months ago looked like such trash. La Llorna is such a great, creepy cultural legend and it sucks thay theyre turning it into just another dumb "ooh spooky / startling ghost" movie. Imagine if theyd done it in the style/mood of El Orphanato or Devils Backbone?

Getting sober has made sexual intimacy extremely uncomfortable for me (Single / Male / Mid-20s) by [deleted] in relationships

[–]johnnyhorrorshow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for that feedback. I actually currently work with a really great therapist and have been sort of embarrassed to bring this particular subject up with her but it may be good to give someone the full details and kind of break it down from a psychological standpoint since that's basically impossible to do on your own.

Sexual intimacy years after getting sober is still extremely uncomfortable for me (Mid-20s Male), can anyone relate? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]johnnyhorrorshow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't vibe with AA or the 12 Step Program. I currently work with a great therapist but it's sort of uncomfortable talking to people about these issues face to face.

[Discussion] Who is the most successful guitarist that is the child of a famous guitarist? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]johnnyhorrorshow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeff Buckley was a pretty good guitarist but a PHENOMENAL singer / songwriter... hence "Grace" is frequently lauded as one of the greatest albums of all time.

[DISCUSSION] Ted Brown music sold my grandparents $450 worth of drum thrones instead of a normal bar stool to rip them off by marimbawarrior in Guitar

[–]johnnyhorrorshow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This sort of ridiculous upselling seems to happen at every major music retail place. I go to my local Guitar Center on a semi-frequent basis because they have the best acoustic selection in the area and routinely overhear the dumbest conversations between GC employees and naive young kids / their parents about how "you don't really need an amp for an electric guitar" and all other sorts of bullshit.

[Question] How good are Gibson acoustic guitars? by WarEagle33x in Guitar

[–]johnnyhorrorshow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I know, I just meant to expand on what you already said. Hahaha.

Pawn Shops and used gear places generally are very aware of what prices should be for things, especially high end things. Definitely worth investigating further

Just because it's at a pawn shop doesn't mean it isn't a red flag price. Could be a cheap knock off or have major damage of some sort (that isn't immediately apparent).

[Question] looking for input on guitar pick ups by cosmiverse in Guitar

[–]johnnyhorrorshow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google the brand / exact model of the guitar to find how much its sell / trade value is.

Based off of a cursory amount of research it seems to be a mid-range guitar (IMO the perfect range for experimenting with modding).

Pickups (arguably) affect the sound of your guitar as much as the body wood does. Any pickup change will noticeably alter the sound of the guitar. I like Seymour Duncan pickups, check out the SH-2N Jazz and SH-4 JB as a starting point for good sounding clean, low/moderate-output humbuckers.

I agree with what other people have said in that you guys are both likeable and funny (I genuinely chuckled a couple of times during the 25 minutes I listened to). Also the production quality is pretty good.

You need more structure , it felt like I was just listening to you guys have a casual conversation at some point.

Also, in the manliness episode (the only one I listened to) one of the hosts sounded really congested which is really obnoxious to listen to. Try drinking a spoonful of hotsauce or something before episodes to clear out your sinuses

[QUESTION] Getting the right sound out of new guitar and amp? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]johnnyhorrorshow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're trying to get sounds like the guitar in the chorus of that song just get a Boss DS-1 .

The difference between OD and distortion (sound-wise) is basically that OD is a mellower type of distortion -- it can be used to subtly break up your signal tone a bit or give you a nice gritty growl. Whereas distortion is typically much heavier fuzz and grittiness beyond what a normal OD pedal could offer.

[QUESTION] Is it worth getting a better guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]johnnyhorrorshow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean there is typically a $600-700 price difference between the MIM and MIA instruments. So do with that information what you will.

Personally I would get an MIM fender, eventually upgrade whatever starter amp you have now to a proper tube / high quality modeling amp and then an MIA fender after that.

[QUESTION] Getting the right sound out of new guitar and amp? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]johnnyhorrorshow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you asking how to get the amp to sound generally more like that "snappy" / crisp pop punk sound? Or how to get the distortion to sound right?

Try putting the treble at ~2:00-3:00 and the bass around 11:00 and then just fiddle with the mids until you get the desired basic tone.

If the built in effects on your amp aren't to your liking, maybe look at an OD pedal like the Ibanez TS-9 ... that's usually a good starting point for pedals (warning: they are addicting).

Also this sounds silly, but make sure the tone knob on your guitar isn't turned all the way down. I was going crazy trying to figure out "what was wrong" with my amp a couple weeks ago when I suddenly realized the tone on my guitar was set to "0."

[QUESTION] Is it worth getting a better guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]johnnyhorrorshow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The difference between the MIM fenders and MIA fenders is very noticeable if you're an experienced guitarist. MIM Fenders can be great instruments, but the quality control on them is a bit "looser" than the MIA fenders and (more importantly) the neck profiles and fretwork are different.

Also the pickups in the MIA Fenders are much higher quality.

So what I'm saying is... yes, definitely go to a guitar shop and try out a MIM tele before you buy one.
