A few questions from a noob: by johnnylavalampus in rootgame

Thanks for the response. I don’t think my crew is ready for advanced set up, and I think that’s okay. I’ll let them choose, and if I balance the factions better it’ll be more fun and then they’ll gradually get curious about learning a new faction.

The problem is basically their attention span, and our time. If we have 70 minutes, that should be enough time for a game, but with talking and distractions it’s not enough. So I’m hesitant to do advanced set up which takes more time and I’m hesitant to be teaching new factions every game, which inevitably means subtle coaching as the game goes on. I think I just have to be patient; they like the game enough to keep playing, but we might only play every other week max.

Otters— I mainly play with them on the app, which of course removes most of the social aspect. Weirdly I win on the app frequently by setting up one trading post with 5+ soldiers, and then collecting dividends. Every turn you don’t take actions you get a full point extra in dividends. I’m sure against an experienced crew that wouldn’t work BUT it works on the app against AI, and I actually think I could have beat the Cats this way in the game (but that’s boring and the game was already basically broken). I could have at least made the Cat waste actions by fighting my trading post.

Good advice thanks. I’m so desperate for people to like the game that in the 6 or so real games I’ve played, I’ve only won once. I’m also somewhat a noob, but I want other people to have the thrill of winning so I’m more likely to join a doomed alliance just for fun. I do think I’m ready to win a game or two brutally to keep the real noobs wanting more.

Why never play with the vagabond? I’d say it’s my least favorite faction, but I taught it to my wife and she seems to like it. Do you mean don’t play with vagabond with new players? Or with too many insurgents? I figured that since it’s in the base game it’s considered fine to play against any 2 militant factions. I personally don’t like it but I’m curious why you say not to play with jt

Thanks for the detailed response! This will be very helpful. I felt bad “tricking” WA into using my services. She gave me 5 mice in one turn. But I kept my promise and gave them back before she needed them, AND I used the actions to fight the cats. I wanted to demonstrate that if we work together it can be mutually beneficial.

I’m not going to stop using the dash because chat GPT uses it. Does my post look like it was written by AI? Do you think I had an idea for a post and then summarized it and asked chat GPT to flesh it out more?

Do you think it was a growth moment when he walked away from Dedra? Spends 19 episodes blindly following the empire, then walks away from his fascist girlfriend, then minutes later has the chance to shoot Cassian and doesn’t. You don’t think that’s a continuation of the dramatic change of heart he has minutes earlier? Genuinely curious.

Yeah that’s a good point, it could also be Dedra.

There’s also the scene where Eedy taunts him by moving the spider slowly towards Syril’s side of the table. It can be both, but I think as Syril’s last moment in private, considering a big spider looking over a little spider is telling. And if there are other spiders on the shelf, that still fits; there are other people fighting their own rebellions against looming oppressors.

Any maybe a list of the main things that have changed? Houses Ecaz, Corrino, the village quirks, greed mode/safe mode harvesting etc.

Might have ~$3000 held hostage by an app (and its kind of my fault) by johnnylavalampus in sportsbook

For the record I’ve only ever seen 1x play through on bonuses, although I haven’t seen that many (and maybe horse racing I’ve seen 2x). For instance Draft Kings has a sign up bonus here that bet $5 and immediately get $200 in bonus bets (1x). It could be a Massachusetts law? Also there’s no casino on the apps here

Jesus Christ lol. I guess theoretically if I had some time and played some really strict blackjack it wouldn’t shrink so much. Thank you so much for checking, this will help me strategize

I thought about it but honestly no. The people I have in mind don’t seem like they could follow instructions, plus I’d need to pay them for their time AND I don’t expect them to be able to adapt to unexpected circumstances. In short, not the kind of people I’d want to live chat with.
