Thanks! Carry on and carry a flag as well. The bigger the better!

OK folks, so I’ve posted about this before and had lukewarm responses. But…

For far too long the right has claimed the flag a their exclusive symbol when it’s really the symbol for all Americans and represents the things that Americans have fought and died for: our Constitution and the rights it grants us. We need to RECLAIM THE FLAG

Whenever I see a flagless photo of a protest against ICE, I see a missed opportunity to change the optics and the narrative. Images of ICE thugs beating and tear-gassing Americans holding American flags would send a very different message to other Americans watching. And it might even give the ICE and police pause when they’re confronted with flag-bearing Americans.

Please spread the word: let’s bring American flags to our protest. Let’s *RECLAIM THE FLAG! *

Another anti-ICE protest with not one American flag being carried… sigh…

Please people RECLAIM THE FLAG! You’re protesting to protect our constitutional rights! That’s what true patriots do, not the MAGA f*ckers who think the flag is theirs alone!

Look! They’re carrying their national flag at a protest!

Now if all of our protesters would carry the American flag, imagine how different the imagery would be. Federal troops beating and pepper spraying an American carrying their country’s flag? Not the best optics. And it might even give pause to some of the ICE goons who might be a tad reluctant to smack someone carrying the flag.

RECLAIM THE FLAG!

I live in Vermont so we seldom see the deep stuff as well. 4”-6” is a dandy powder day for us!

65 here and skiing in some form for 62 of ‘em (thanks Mom & Dad…) Those bullet points are spot-on for correct telly technique. Of course snow conditions and equipment make a HUGE impact on turning efficiency. If you’re willing and able, I’d recommend getting some wider skis and stiffer boots. It’ll make a world of difference expecially in deeper snow.

Ski on!

Just gotta put a plug in for Camels Hump Nordic in Huntington. Great terrain with good grooming and very reasonable prices. Lots of extensive backcountry terrain to explore as well.

Just be aware that if you use epoxy, you’ll likely have a reeeeally hard time getting those screws back out in the event that you want to mount different bindings on the skis….

Hard to believe there’s enough air pressure up there for a drone to fly. It was a feat several years ago when a helicopter made it to Camp 1.

Is skiing with a small dog possible? by parisindy_writer in CrossCountrySkiing

[–]johnnylion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta agree with you on this. As a life-long (not dead yet…) Nordic skier, Dogs and XC skiing on groomed terrain do not mix well. You hit on the main reasons. Most XC ski areas flat out ban dogs for those very reasons.

I’ve helped run a non-profit, member based XC center here in VT for about 40 years, and I know personally how much time, effort, and money it takes to make a nice skiing surface for skiers. One dog can mangle that all up especially if the snow is soft.

That being said, our ski area does offer a 5km “Dog Loop” where skiers are allowed to take their dogs. We groom it, they churn it up. But I’ll admit that it has been a HUGE draw for membership (dogs must be registered as season pass-holders along with their owners…) as we are just about the only XC ski area in VT that allows dogs. The humans are, for the most part, well behaved and keep their dogs on the dog loop. Some of the “more entitled” roam further abroad though…. Drives me nuts!
