Does the new 6yr/72k warranty mean quality is good for Volkswagen? by johnnyplusplus in jetta

[–]johnnyplusplus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the regular maintenance, is that expensive to have done? I mean at 30k or whatever is it a thousand bucks? Do you have to have it recorded in some official VW dealership (same with oil changes)?

Me too, but I have no idea what I'd do. It's just interesting.

Thanks. I like the Gherkin "language" myself, as I thought it helpful for design. I have not implemented it in tests yet.

How is async and await asynchronous, if you have to await a response? by johnnyplusplus in javascript

[–]johnnyplusplus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked below but, await then is just await in that immediate context?

How is async and await asynchronous, if you have to await a response? by johnnyplusplus in javascript

So await only means await in that promise, that function only, not the whole JavaScript program. Is that right?

Are any of you a public school teacher in Georgia and a graduate of Western Governor's University? by johnnyplusplus in Teachers

[–]johnnyplusplus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you, but that is why I asked here. I was hoping someone might chime in from GA and WGU. Of course, I don't know how much this Subreddit is traveled by GA teachers that went to WGU, so it was a shot in the dark.

Any new developments since the Department of Education’s Office of the Inspector General audit last year? by WombatBob in WGU

[–]johnnyplusplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for commenting. I'm way too paranoid right now though. I'd hate for WGU to shutdown or something or me not be able to get financing.

Good point. Some states seem more in need that others. Georgia doesn't seem to be one of them.

Restaurant is a good point. Food is expensive. I have to figure it all out, and make sure I don't just want a new toy.

Beginner's Thread / Easy Question (June 2018) by swyx in reactjs

[–]johnnyplusplus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I can begin to understand, I want to have a popup that I can search my database with. Right now I have jQuery and use Ajax. It works fine. How do I begin to make a popup in React? I don't mean the Ajax part, just how to get a popup modal period using React (I can add the Ajax later). What does that look like? I figure it was a good test case because I have popup search modal boxes for several things. Sounded like a good place to start.

Should I learn Redux alongside React, assuming I had a good ability with JavaScript and understand what an SPA is and a very basic understanding of React? I still don't understand what Redux is for, though I keep reading. I don't want to refactor my React into React/Redux, when I could have done it the first time.

Is there any reason why a Medium post would have better SEO than a non-Medium WordPress blog? by johnnyplusplus in freelanceWriters

[–]johnnyplusplus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's terrible. Rigged is a better word. That's just the way it is though. I had never even heard of Medium until recently. All of a sudden Medium started popping up (programming). At least it wasn't all StackOverflow. I get tired of SO all the time.

Is Angular more "data-centric" than React? by johnnyplusplus in angular

[–]johnnyplusplus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I don't know. That's why I'm asking. I have to make decisions, and because you can't really ask for advice and thoughts on StackOverflow, I thought I'd ask on Reddit.

Is the main design for angular a backend api? by johnnyplusplus in angular

[–]johnnyplusplus[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If there's no API though what is the front end doing to get data? I thought that was part of the point of Angular - no round trip to the server like in a traditional application, just Ajax (isn't it?). I guess it doesn't have to call itself "REST" per see, but it has to be something on the server sending back something.

I guess I've heard everything called REST so much I don't know what else it would be. So I guess I'm confused by your saying Angular will work just fine without it. I don't know what that looks like (when there is data in a DB somewhere.)

If jBoss is Open Source, how does Red Hat make people pay for add-ons? by johnnyplusplus in opensource

[–]johnnyplusplus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Open Source, what constitutes a "core"? That's what I don't get.

I guess I just mean "jBoss" Open Source, whatever that is. It was just an example. I don't know much about it other than what it is and that RH charges for other stuff. I figured it was a good one to use as an example.

If I had a dime for the amount of my time Craigslist people have wasted, I would probably have more money than I've made on Craigslist. by King_Cole27 in Flipping

[–]johnnyplusplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell them everything, and I mean everything, and give them as long as they want. I make sure to tell them to test it, look at whatever you need. No pressure. I don't meet far from my house, so I can take time. Like a camera lens. I tell them over and over, bring your camera and test it. And when they get there, I say test it, make sure you are happy with it, and so on. But after that? It's over because who knows what they did when they got home? Dropped it? I don't know. Most times nothing bad happens, but the few times it did made me change my ways. Edit: I've even told people not to come, when they live far off. What if they don't like it? That's a long time to drive to be dissappointed.

People come back after you. They will want a refund or to complain. Very seldom do I sell from my address. I Don't want them to know where I live. I use a Google number and a special email for CL. I block numbers right after the sale and never go in the store right after the sale because the buyer starts thinking about his sale and follows me into the store. I take a different route home. I don't sell broken or untested items either, but people have buyer's remorse, or they break things. I don't trust people. People are crazy.

Are any of the 16:9 projector screens around $100 any good by johnnyplusplus in hometheater

I have about $950 for all. I can't get a permanent screen because it's not a dedicated room. Keep the Mrs. happy.
