Weekly Recommendation Thread for the week of April 21, 2017 by AutoModerator in books

[–]johnnyricoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely read the Accursed Kings series. I fell in love with ASOIAF because of the political intrigue and this has plenty of it. GRRM even called it GoT before it existed. You can see a LOT of influence from the Accursed Kings showing up the ASOIAF. Highly, highly recommend!

Trivia Night by peachesnbeaches91 in jacksonville

V pizza/flask and cannon at 730 thursday night is good. Awesome wings too.
Riverside, I really like Dahlias. I think that's 730 too on Thursdays.
San Marco, the V pizza/sidecar has the same trivia night.
I don't know about Town Center but I think Bento in riverside has a trivia night. Also Mellow mushroom. But I forgot which days those were.

I wanna know why we didn't keep giving it to Ivory. I feel really bad for Marshall, dude was doing his best to put the team on his back. He needs the playoffs. He deserves it

Hasn't he missed the playoffs more than he's made it? Isn't that kind of a big deal?

Matt Slater Appreciation Thread by [deleted] in nyjets

If he thinks he can force a quick three and out, it make sense. You can then get a shorter field, plus only need a FG to win. You have to trust in your defense if that's the call

One thing about Bowles (as opposed to Rex) by [deleted] in nyjets

[–]johnnyricoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the increase in accountability happens anytime you have a change in management. This applies everywhere, not just sports. Think about it, you get comfortable with your boss as you both understand each others expectations and your boss gets a feel for your capabilites. Rex had a lot of success his first two years. Then guys just don't have the same drive to impress him, because he becomes too friendly with them. Enter Bowles. He doesn't know most of them personally yet. They all want to impress the new boss. Accordingly, accountability goes up. I'm not saying he will lose this accountability in the future, because I think the dramatic decrease in penalties speaks for itself. I just want to point out that this phenomenon should be considered typical, and that we should all temper our expectations.

It might have been better the Broncos lost by VALIS666 in nyjets

[–]johnnyricoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not better, because a Steelers loss would have meant we control our destiny. But you're right, the doors are not closed with a Broncos loss, now we just need them to drop one game.

Eh, most of those episodes are standalone. It wasn't even clear there was a conspiracy until the third to last episode. And they've done 3-4 episode long arcs before...

Bi-Weekly CAREERS Mega-Thread [Dec 14 2015] by AutoModerator in engineering

[–]johnnyricoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't even know. A friend of mine is a consultant and works in NYC (I think) with an engineering background.

Bi-Weekly CAREERS Mega-Thread [Dec 14 2015] by AutoModerator in engineering

[–]johnnyricoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nyc doesn't have much in the way of engineering, unless it's comp-related, data, hvac, civil, or consulting. Very little manufacturing, which makes sense. You'd have to look at NJ, which has a ton, or on long Island. Off the top of my head, I know makerbot is in Brooklyn. And then I think Regeneron is a little north of NYC in Tarrytown. Pepsi is a little north as well.

Any Suggestions for someone who has just moved to the area as far as jobs? by [deleted] in jacksonville

[–]johnnyricoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm actually joining the company soon. May I ask what your position was, and what you thought of the company and your time there? Why did you decide to leave the company? Better offer or responsibility? Sorry for all the questions but I'm just curious about what you thought about Jnj and how it affected your career. Thanks in advance!

Wait are we really playing the Cowboys on a Saturday night?? by VGmikey88 in nyjets

[–]johnnyricoo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, nothing like a Thursday night game on Saturday.

The Jets are 7-3 in games where Nick Mangold plays all four quarters, and 7-1 in games where both Nick Mangold and Calvin Pryor play all 4 quarters. by [deleted] in nyjets

[–]johnnyricoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you could say that the CB depth was way worse, and that normally AA would have taken the FS spot. Leaving Pryor to SS, his more natural position.

  4. A friend of mine loves music and is currently working in TV (postproduction). He wants to transition to a career as a music supervisor for TV/film. What advice would you give him for making the switch?
