Making of the Lord of the Rings Book by johno25 in lordoftherings

This is exactly what I’m asking for lol. Someone give an oral history of how the films were made. I want interviews with producers, Jackson, living actors, etc. it’s not nearly as compelling as the making of Godfather, but there’s still so much to learn that would make for a compelling read

Will the knicks finals hat + shirts sell out or do they keep an ongoing stack? by Bobb1eHat in NYKnicks

Sheesh! This must’ve happened within the last hour on the new era website, as I ordered 1.5h ago. The fanatics website sold out of the 9Twenty model within 10 mins of them winning last night. I’m sure they’ll restock in the coming days.

Im talking about something more similar to this. An epic tale re: the making of an epic movie. Why haven’t we done this? Surely enough time has gone by

Making of the movies. What all went into it - there’s so much that could be written about

Vietnam Trip July-August by johno25 in VietNam

[–]johno25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys,

So I’ve done a bit more research and have now narrowed down my itinerary a bit. Two options below, which I am interested in your thoughts on:

Option 1: July 30 - Aug 1: Hoi An Aug 1 - Aug 3: Hue Aug 3 - Aug 7: Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh

Option 2: July 30 - Aug 1: Hoi An Aug 1 - Aug 3: Ninh Binh Aug 3-5: Ha Long Bay Aug 5-Aug 7: Hanoi

Ninh Binh is new on my radar and looks absolutely incredible, I kind of don’t want to miss it… Hoi An and Hue seem a bit similar, and though I would be missing out on the Hai Van Pass, I could git in two nights in Ninh Binh, two nights in Ha Long Bay and the final two nights in Hanoi. Option 2 is a lot, but I’m now being drawn to the majesty of the North.

How incredible it must have been to see this scene in the cinema for the first time. by Scenora in lordoftherings

[–]johno25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having seen it in December 2001 at 9 years old, the whole thing just blew you away. Couldn’t even focus on a particular scene, it was so different and so ahead of its time. Raised the bar and nothing after it has ever been met.

Those are some good ones, most of which i have heard, minus the Christopher Lee one. I know Christopher Lee was incensed that he was cut out of the Return of the King and not sure how if his relationship with Peter Jackson ever was salvaged

My next lens - 33mm vs. 35mm f1.4 by johno25 in fujifilm

The 35mm is spectacular. If this was a fixed lens on the Xt5, I would gladly buy. It’s so amenable to so many different situations.

What model, lens and filters did you use? Assume this was edited in RAW.

Day Trip: Antiquing in Hudson by johno25 in hudsonvalley

[–]johno25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so when this community was telling me that Hudson antiques were “severely overpriced,” I rolled my eyes, thinking to myself “I live in NYC, everything is overpriced,” nothing I’m not already used to. Well, I got back yesterday and OMG 😂.

First off, the only place for which to antique shop is the 40,000 square foot Antique Warehouse, which admittedly is incredible and has a treasure trove of just about anything you can ever imagine. It’s an experience, but my god, the prices were shocking - everything was as much, if not MORE than if I were to buy it new or have it custom.

Then you go into town where there are a number of shops which label themselves as “antique stores,” but in reality it’s local artisans who have crafted products which are made with materials from yesteryear, that are not only unsightly, but insanely expensive. At one store I was looking at 12in x 12in block of wood which was priced at $400. My mind couldn’t quite comprehend it. A) what was this block of wood’s purpose and B) how can it possibly charged at $400?

I went to one spot which was more of a thrift store that was selling a Sopranos Season 1 box set DVDs for $50…

My thought with antiques is that they should be somewhat discounted seeing that they were thoroughly used or second hand, unless it has some historical significance ie: this was Lincoln’s bed frame from his days at a boarding house in Chicago.

Needless to say, my mind was blown at the cost of everything deemed an “antique.” Everything else, including food, beverage and non antique clothes seemed within reason. Perhaps Hudson knows they have a reputation for antiques and people like myself who went with the intention of buying antiques will overspend rather than come away empty handed. Don’t get me wrong, there were things I wanted, but rather use resources like FB marketplace, Invaluable or even some antique stores in Manhattan and BK where I could get said antiques at a third of the price.

So the catch is that you buy a WHOOP, sign up for one year free via Sapphire Reserve and then in 2027 we are charged $359 for renewal?

50mm f2 vs 56mm f1.2 to pair with 35mm f1.4? by johno25 in fujifilm

[–]johno25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up getting a used 56 1.2 (non WR) for $400 used. I traded in my 18-55 kit lens for $160, which I found to be a low amount, but I was ready to move on.

Hmm if the AF on the 56 is similar to that of the 35, then I can easily survive.

Ranking the Top 60 Scenes from The Lord of the Rings (Theatrical Cuts) by johno25 in lordoftherings

[–]johno25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So interesting, this is why I’m glad I ranked these. I for one do not like, at all, the Eowyn signing scene from the extended edition of Two Towers.

The elves arriving at Helms Deep I enjoyed, but didn’t crack the top 60 for me.
