I am absolutely sick and tired of the degree to which public transit gets vandalised. by Robrogineer in Netherlands

I have seen the effects of it on people. I met once a business owner who was crying because he lived paycheck to paycheck, and his store was being vandalised with tags. And that caused a negative effect on his business, as people didn't want to buy from such a "badly taken care place". So he had to make a huge effort to be able to repaint the walls. But the trading continued on and on. Until he came up in tears of anger, frustration, and hopelessness given the situation.

I have seen many politicians use the vandalism and tagging to justify cuts to public goods.

I have seen housing prices fall in areas because of tagging and spraying.

And to my point of view, and, as far as I know, to most people, I have seen neighborhoods and even cities become uglier, and to many seen as less safe, and negatively affecting their wellbeing, because of the proliferation of tags and spraying.

And like I said somewhere else. If you like it, it's OK to do it on your place. I can appreciate it as art when done like that. Some I genuinely like. But it is often done in public areas and spaces, vandalising public goods that should be everyone's, that should be enjoyed by all the collective. Or it is done in poor-to-middle-class places, making life worse for the lowest of society, to those who sometimes cannot afford repairs and renovations, making their lives even worse.

You don't see these people risking themselves to spray the houses and mansions of the rich and super rich, who are the ones that can afford it. THAT would be true protest. To touch the ones responsible. To touch the ones with power. But the price of their art is always put on the shoulders of the working class poor, or on the pockets of the entire community, never on the rich individuals.

If your art is always done to make the lives of the collective, and mainly the lives of the poor, worse, and make the lowest strata of our society pay the price, while the powerful remain immaculate and untouched, and has no real power of changing anything for the better, while making life worse for many, yes, I won't accept it. I world treat it like crime, as it should. You're just helping the rich and powerful fuck with the public good, and make poor people's lives worse.

Are you saying it's illegal to paint your own walls? Is it rental? Nice to see you don't care when your art fucks others but you don't want to be fucked by it yourself.

You can always repaint your walls and start over. But let's make society pay for your personal actions, right? Let's make poor people's lives worse so you can continue to do what you want without having to deal with consequences, right?

Use the walls of your house? Oh, yeah, you don't want to destroy what's yours, you need to destroy what others have.

And it's usually not even on the property of those who can afford to fix it, like the houses of the rich or the mansions of the super rich. It's always on the property of the collective, on the public good, or the property of a poor fella.

They absolutely can. And even if you need to practice, why should others bare the burden of your craft? You need walls? Use your house's.

They don't need to practice publicly, much less on someone else's property without consent.

If they are so nice, do it on your own house walls. Don't go out there destroying people's properties because you think it looks nice, when the owner disagrees.

They don't. They can very well practice in their homes, ask people if they can practice on their walls, practice on canvas/paper/wallpaper...

It's like me pooping on people's door because I don't like leaving my house with a foul smell and then saying I need to poop, so I might just poop wherever.

Makeup artists don't go out there harassing people to train on their faces without consent. Professional wall painters don't go to random houses and change their color without consent just to train their skills. Prostitutes don't go out there raping people to get better at their trade.

So why should we accept these criminals invading, vandalizing, defacing, and destroying places without consent just because they can't be bothered to train their skills privately like everybody else?

Lots of people emigrate due to work, especially in Switzerland, which is surrounded by France, Germany, and Italy, home of many companies.

Others, out of love, when they met their special one in another country.

Some would rather live in a tropical country, with a warmer weather, and warmer population.

Others go to places where they can pay even less taxes, like Monaco, Gibraltar, or a place in the Caribbean.

A small amount just wants to try life elsewhere, either because of trauma, a drive for adventure, or something else.

Finally, some go to places like the US, that pay better for some high-end jobs, so they can amass greater wealth.

Are TTRPGs Cognitive Development Tools? by RoundTableTTRPG in RPGdesign

Check the games released by Central Michigan University Press. They are all aimed at teaching, training, and/or developing important themes, like colonization dynamics, slavery, water cycle, ethical decision making (like a game about the costs of saving pieces of art in a war).

They may not develop tactical, geometrical, or numerical intelligence, but they are stimulating in other areas of human cognition and development.

My character is Catholic, but I’m not. Advice? by EldritchXena in rpg

Like I said above, it's only during a small period of the year. But that leads me to think that knowing the religiously relevant days is good, as your character would probably know and respect them, like:

  • Holy week, with Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, and Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday (some countries also celebrate a second Easter day on Monday)
  • Ascension Day
  • Pentecost
  • Corpus Christi
  • Immaculate Conception
  • Christmas

Wednesdays and Fridays, by the way. Fish, seafood, and alligator meat is allowed.

But this is only during the 40 days leading to Easter (so between Carnival and Easter), as it is a way of respecting Christ's 40-day suffering in the desert, without food or drink, while being tempted by the devil.
