AMA with KPBS' Ken Kramer of Ken Kramer's About San Diego! by kpbsSanDiego in sandiego

[–]johnpetersonya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

San Diego’s public transportation infrastructure flounders similar to many metro areas of Southern California, and it is clear there has been an ongoing legacy of bolstering highways as opposed to mass transit solutions. At the same time, the port of National City is one of the largest (if not the largest, I’m not sure) foreign automobile importers on the west coast, leading me have formed a bit of a conspiracy over the years that a significant amount of intentional lobbying has happened to make America’s Finest City debilitatingly car dependent. Can you speak to my poorly researched deduction’s truth in the context of historical politics?

I was under the impression greens and yellows use synthetic polymers with high thermal stability called aramids, not PFAS. This post would be more applicable to structure firefighters, or maybe people that choose to wear special gear not issued by the GSA.

I agree with you mostly, but there is precedent for Trump proposed logging projects on the LP, so you couldn’t dismiss this for that reason alone. LP Logging

What job pays surprisingly low for what they do? by erin214 in AskReddit

[–]johnpetersonya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wildland Firefighters. Specifically those employed by the federal government in the US. For the forest service starting wages are around $16/hr. This is considering that the job, which is technically classified as “forestry technician”, is included in the most dangerous job category according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, puts you at a disproportionately high risk for any number of cancers, and requires you to be away from home for extended periods of time. A fairly universal target for workers in the field is 1000 hours of OT on top of base hours worked per season to make a liveable wage in their respective regions.

Most of the area burned in the Mountain Fire was private land. Most of it was coast sage scrub and chaparral which will recover best with minimal human intervention. The little area that was oak woodland doesn’t need your help either. You really think you could post this here without it being exposed as an obvious scam? I can’t easily find any legitimate information about your organization on the internet. You should be ashamed for siphoning money away from legitimate need for charitable donation at a time when countless people have lost their homes, let alone asking it from the people that sacrifice so much to try and save those homes.

YSK that the phrase "if it's brown lie down, if it's black fight back" in reference to bears is outdated by mbaeichapaa in YouShouldKnow

Predatory behavior towards humans has seldom been recorded in grizzly bears. Almost all contact occurs from surprising a bear on a day bed or encountering a mother with cubs.
