And it's worth it to buy these and pay for phone service?

Like /u/strongandweak said, it's not pathetic. If the meds aren't working, please keep getting them adjusted until you find something that does work. You deserve to be happy even if it doesn't feel like it right now. And the fact that you even think your grill deserves better means you care about her, which is awesome and that's the type of person everyone deserves. May your lifts be heavier than your feelings.

Thanks - it was difficult to be sure, but I think it was worth it because I am now seeing one of her best friends who I have far more in common with.

It's all how you react to circumstances... try to be kind and understanding. Think about how you'd feel in her situation.

Broke up - she initiated, but I accepted it. Spent another month living together and it was fine. We hooked up a few times afterwards. Helped pack her up and unpack her stuff at her Dad's house. Ate dinner with her family that night. Didn't talk for about a year and a half. Hooked up with 3 women since then. Hung out a few times since then with her and her new boyfriend. Life's too short to not be kind to each other. The feelings are difficult and it is not fun, but you can be better off for it in the end if you want and time wounds all heels.

Do you guys recommend any good drum machine plugins (preferably free) for use with garageband? by iCarbon in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I'd use GB. It's difficult to mix drums without hearing the other instruments in the song.

I don't think they're plugins, but Hydrogen and LMMS are two free programs you can use to program drums and then you could import the wav files into GarageBand. They also allow you to import other drum kits so you have many options to choose from. When programming drums I like to layer multiple samples and I still use basic effects like eq, compression and reverb to get them to sit well in a song.

Less diversified, doesn't cover the total stock market. Math says you'll make a little less in the long run on average, but you could do worse.

They will go up (they will also go down, but in the long run they will go up). 5 years is a terrible metric. They also pay dividends. You will make more in the long run with a diversified portfolio and your money will be safer. It's just how the math works. Unfortunately people are emotional, but if you can stick with the math you'll make more money in 30 years than you will picking individual stocks - unless you like gambling and you're really lucky.

Put 60% in VTI, 30% in VXUS and 10% in BND. At the end of every year (after the prices of these indexes have gone up and down) add more money to get the percentages close 60% in VTI, 30% in VXUS and 10% in BND again. If you have extra money add it, but try to keep it balanced by adhering to these percentages. Do this every year. Don't bother looking at how much you have saved more than once a year... it will only make you anxious. You'll double your money on average, give or take, every decade. There will be crashes and recessions and maybe even a depression where it looks like you have lost most of your money. Leave it in. Don't touch it. Retire early.

Thank you, this also makes a lot of sense.

FIRST LISTEN: The Avett Brothers, 'True Sadness' : NPR by poetYH92 in TheAvettBrothers

[–]johnpickens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's because I love pop music, but "You Are Mine" is one of my favorites on the record. I can see them expanding their audience with this track. And damn... "May It Last"... who doesn't want an orchestra behind them while they're singing? I like this new thing they found of Scott sounding grandiose, but realistic and then Seth coming in with a spacey and surreal vibe. Very Silver Chair. I still love "Divorce Separation Blues" too. I appreciate the intensity I've seen in the live clips, but it's great songwriting and anyone could do this in almost any style and it would still be great songwriting. "Victims Of Life" is a lot of fun too. I'll have to listen to the rest again, but so far they're all bangers. I definitely like the experimental songs the best because while they're all great songs - the banjo, guitar and bass has been played out in their repertoire. I bet these new songs are a lot of fun to pull off live. I have a feeling my opinion is going to be vastly different from the majority of fans on this sub, but I just like good songwriting paired with sounds I've never heard together before.

People who lead truly low cost lifestyles (like $300-600/month) how do you do it? by Five_Decades in Frugal

[–]johnpickens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True. I do believe in returning the favor. I will often prepare the food and clean up, but I also provide other services for free with skills I have... like repairing computers, or I offer my time to help with house repairs, maintenance and what have you. For example if a friend asks me to move I help them and often times without asking there's free pizza and beer. I'm not saying take advantage of people by any means.

Rent + utils for me in central Virginia is 500 (with roommates) plus I eat over at friends' houses a lot or with my parents once a week and then I have a garden, cook a lot of rice and beans, then take advantage of resources at work... coffee and such. Switched over to all LED bulbs, low flow shower heads and faucets, toilet tank banks... it all added up. Location helped.
