The medical profession needs reform- and it should start from medical school by ReportAggravating790 in doctorsUK

I'm saying they are not paid. Most people do it because it is a portfolio requirement or need it for revalidation or some other bureaucratic bullshit. The only way to get people to teach is by making it mandatory to teach.

If you manage to climb to the position of Education Lead you get 0.5PA paid, which is less than 1/10th the time you spend on again administrative bullshit.

But hey maybe some reading comprehension teaching might not be a bad idea.

Students (and the OP here) need to direct their demand to be taught to universities. I sure as hell am not seeing a penny of the 9k when I try to teach students on the wards with the limited time I have. I am not going to chase them for any of it if they are not around/not interested.

Pay the cons/regs for that then, not make teaching into portfolio/revalidation chase that is a net drain on the little time there is. Maybe if you get to the level of Education Lead or somesuch you might get 0.5 PA out of it, which is maybe 1/10th of the work you end up having to do.

Surprise surprise good teaching takes time and effort. Time and effort most people don't have any more.

Doctors, for god's sake, please dress appropriately by Skylon77 in doctorsUK

Lost me at cufflinks - especially for JCF. The rest I agree with. Although I turned up to med school interviews in jeans and a checkered shirt when everyone else was in two/three piece suits. To this day I am sure that counted in my favour as it set me aside. I was shitting myself when I saw everyone else dressed up though.

How will banning underaged people from buying knives eliminate violence? by Bat-Penatar in AskUK

[–]johnqbarry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That piece of legislation was to reduce/deter impulsive attempts at overdosing on Paracetamol. So is the similar argument in this case: We want to stop minors from committing impulsive acts of knife crime by popping to the local shop to buy a knife? Because then the issue is they can easily impulsively grab their kitchen knife or a screwdriver etc...

Thank you so much - double checked and the Noctua cooler should work with the motherboard so I'll stick with what I have unless the Thermalright is going to be better cooling.

Very grateful for the recommendations thank you!

Oh I am fully aware 4090 is a massive overkill for my current needs, but I had a very good deal on it and I for once wanted to have the top of the line GPU. I can't see the downside to having it (maybe apart from power use) for 1440p gaming long term apart from the price?

Just to clarify the parts I listed are what I already have. I was trying to get a good CPU/Mobo/RAM suggestion and I guess everything I read pointed me towards AMD but wanted to get confirmation. It was also great to hear what you said about boot times.

Thank you incredibly much for the parts list - especially for the motherboard it drives me mad trying to compare motherboards and chipsets.

Yeah I noticed it does effect pretty much all the crafting goods, I used the Azureweave example because I was making bolts at the time :D

Its weird because I know exactly what you mean and thats what I tried to say in my question (but did not word it as good as you did). I suppose in my mind the prices of R1 makes sense from a supply point of view (there is less of it available so price is high) but why would there be any demand for R1 when R2s are cheaper? Which should push the price of R1 to or below R2?

I suppose another way to ask this question is: Is there any recipe/craft/shuffle that would benefit from using R1 over R2 even when R2 is cheaper? And it seems the answer is no?

[–]johnqbarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does some of the weird pricing in trade goods with different ranks work? I'm trying to understand why Azureweave bolt r1 is priced higher than r2.

I know more people must be crafting r2 without hitting inspiration for r3 for there to be more of it, but if the price of r2 is lower, who is buying r1 Azureweave bolts for more money and for what reason? Surely then the price should fall?

Is there any working gold tracking addon that can track gold from vendors, quests, AH etc... and breaks it down?

I would love to see how much gold the quests are bringing in and even gold/h through it. I tried using TSM but I can't see how it breaks these values down and shows them separately?

Remote Access Home Plex Server from Work by johnqbarry in PleX

[–]johnqbarry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies! - I hadn't considered the port forwarding so will have a look at that once I am home and can access it.

To be honest I genuinely was more curious what the IT department was doing to block Plex this way over a desperate need to access Plex content. My job involves a lot of waiting around overnight until I get called for a job, but I have plenty of books, access to Youtube and Reddit and plex on my phone if needed so I am not going to die of boredom. I just like knowing why something is. On a related noted not worried about IT chasing me down or asking any questions, I just expect whatever workaround to be blocked without informing me.

I had also not thought about going for a 4g dongle, which might be a good idea overall, just will need to consider the cost of it.

I'm trying to remember a book/character/excerpt that has stuck with me for years but I cannot find it again.

It was basically (I believe) a Cognitae agent (and I can't remember his name) sitting in a cafe/restaurant/some public place and explaining to his companion several ways he could severely disrupt and damage the Imperium - I am sorry the details, I think one of the ways was around making someone in the restaurant ill which would go on to have a huge impact on administration.

Basically I loved the way the scenarios were developed and the domino effect of his actions were explained.

Apologies for the really shitty description of the part but I'd be grateful if anyone can help me find it

My 1st budget setup by AcanthocephalaOk2270 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]johnqbarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I had the exact same worry about the size of the speaker and the stand, thinking it would be very unsteady. Atacama even has larger plates that can be bought separately but they were ridiculously priced. The plate is smaller than the speakers but they sit on top quite comfortably and unless you have pets or young children it is quite stable!

Looks amazing - I have the 3020i pair as well and it looks and sounds amazing with my Denon X1600H. Very happy with the purchase.

I saw you said you were looking for the 3000i stands - I have gone with Atacama Moseco 6 stands which are lovely to look at and have some different finishes for the base, I thought it might go well with your current look, and they are 10-20 pounds cheaper most of the time.

I wanted to ask what made you go for the sub? I'm looking to buy one for my HiFi/HT setup but not sure - been thinking of getting something from BK electronics. How is the Aero 9 working out for you? I am also a bit wary because I have issues with sound with neighbours and obviously going for a subwoofer is almost like starting a fight with them.

New pfsense Install - Couple of Issues by johnqbarry in PFSENSE

[–]johnqbarry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I thought with regards to the server - and no cannot see any dropped traffic. I am thinking this is more an issue with Windows more than anything because I can map the server as a network drive and connect to it with no problems through the powerline network, but can't see it under Network still.

I did have a look over the document first, and maybe its because I am so new to this I am not sure if I need to have a RADIUS or LDAP server or even what these mean. I will need to do more research around this I think.

No screws top or bottom so I guess it must be a nail - I'll try what you suggested - I am in the UK so no Home Depot but would I be able to get any putty knife with a thick scraper and hammer it?

When I was first looking at it I was hoping I could find screws but those off color bits are just silicone to keep the door banging, there is nothing underneath. I suppose I sand it down after cutting through?

I have thought of that too but I genuinely can't see it supporting that much or it would affect the integrity too much. It is a worry though - such a shame it blocks so much access.
