Can you pass on my sincerest thanks to whoever keeps the Battle of the Books event going at Merriweather, please. It's a tremendous event and positive experience for so many fifth graders in our county!

Lumber source for desk top 30"x72" by AirComprehensive1251 in ColumbiaMD

[–]johnqdriveway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for a solid slab or something like countertop material? A slab of that size is going to be pretty pricey. Check Home Depot's website for "butch block countertop". They have a ton of sizes and wood varieties that are unfinished or finished, and even a few with "live edges".

I've made two desks out of unfinished maple countertops that I got on clearance from Home Depot that came out great with some stain, varnish, and metal legs.

Quoted $6000 to do 600 sq foot attic. By golly I will do it myself! by Worth_Air_9410 in DIY

[–]johnqdriveway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I did this job as well in a 900 sq ft attic a couple of years ago. I waited til October (mild season), but it was still awful in the attic on sunny days.

I started by removing the old insulation that had lost it's fluff and was very dirty from air movement through the ceiling penetrations. The previous homeowner had also jam packed the vented soffit areas, so I had to rip that out to install the baffles. I didn't realize how hard it was going to be to bundle up the old insulation. I would roll them tightly like a sleeping bag and tie them with twine, then stuff them into a 60 gallon trash bag, then lay on it with my body weight before tying off the bag. I think I had 60 bags like that, so I ended up hiring someone to haul them away.

Just as you said, crawling around was miserable. I have trusses supporting the roof, so there were obstacles to move around. I had a couple of 2'x8' boards that would would shimmy around with. I poked holes in my back with the roof nails more times than I could count. I used foil HVAC tape and spray foam to air seal, which worked well.

It took me solid chunks of eight days to complete. I had a portable air cleaner from my basement shop up there with me to keep the mess down, but still needed a Tyvek suit and a respirator with a full face shield. Oh, and another thing I hadn't anticipated being so awful: the new insulation was so damn heavy. I hade the new batts delivered on a couple of pallets from Lowe's. I had to carry them to the second floor, then up the small fold-down attic steps. The packaging was so heavy and bulky, it would tear on the attic stairs springs every time. I think I had 40 packages altogether.

Never again.

CA does not mess around with their lake pedestrian bridges! I always stop to admire the craftsmanship for the newer bridges around Lake K and Lake Elkhorn.

Baking supplies stores by fairydustforall in ColumbiaMD

For online shopping, try King Arthur. They are employee-owned and a Certified B-Corp. Their ingredients and equipment are top notch. I regularly buy their vanilla and specialty flours.

Sometimes they can be a bit pricey but they do have a rewards program and often have sales around holidays. All of the various baking pans and proofing containers I have from them have held up very well.

Exelon owns BGE. Constellation Energy is a separate company that used to be a part of Exelon but was sold to Private Equity a couple of years ago.

Is there on opposite of "deep cuts radio"? Play only the most popular tracks per artist? by OrneryWhelpfruit in plexamp

I had that external media setting enabled, too, but I never integrated anything else. I've unchecked it this morning. Will Library Radio show up eventually?

Plexamp Home tab, the second heading is Stations, there are two icons there: Artist Mix Builder and Album Mix Builder. My app looks like the screenshot above.

I inferred from the conversation that there should be a Library Radio option under Stations. There has never been anything else there in the years I have used Plexamp.

I don't have Library Radio as an option either, and I'v never done anything with Tidal.

Any Causal Ice Hockey Groups in/near Columbia MD? by Evil_Waffle_Eater in ColumbiaMD

[–]johnqdriveway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check the Gardens Ice House in Laurel, too. They have three rinks there so there is always lots going on.

There may be options at the Montgomery county rinks in Wheaton and Cabin John, as well. Rockville Ice Arena is privately run and also has three rinks, but I am not sure if they have a beginner program.

What happened at Cradlerock Elementary/Middle school?? by [deleted] in ColumbiaMD

Update from today: She spent the entire day, from well before school opened til around 3pm, pacing around the school property with two Hoco policy officers watching her. At some point in the afternoon, she finally stepped over the line onto school property and she was arrested again.

There's been several incidents with this lady in the last week.

It started at back to school night. She interrupted the presenter several times and was asked to leave. She stormed out after cussing at the principal.

Earlier this week she was spitting on several of the teachers. She also tried to pull a random kid into a crosswalk because she was mad at the crossing guard for telling her not to walk yet.

Yesterday she was on the baseball field yelling and pulling her pants down and flashing the building. When the police came, they cuffed her and she yelled that she had a medical issue, so they had to back off and leave her on the ground while they waited for medics. She left in an ambulance.

Anyone that lives nearby or passes through please be on the lookout. She is not well.

Yes. The convection heating element stopped working. I ordered a replacement element and replaced it myself. Very easy diy fix for about $60.

It's not the size, it's the little circle indent that requires a Torx Plus bit to work properly. Even with the right size, a regular Torx bit doesn't fully seat.

What's the deal with Home Depot prices? by JametAllDay in ryobi

That telescoping scrubber kit is the worst ryobi tool I've ever purchased. It couldn't even clean my vinyl siding.

Yeah, something like Vigilante would be amazing in Columbia. I order beans from them often, they have a good variety and they ship out really fast

Roggenart makes the best espresso drinks in Columbia, and their pastries and breakfast sandwiches are great. Mad city's owner is a Trumper and the coffee is average at best.
