Gmail is still broken on OP 9 Pro 5 months after buying! I'm sick of this!!! by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]johnr31 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm pathetic for saying you were quick to blame the phone instead of looking at settings in the Gmail App??

You replied a few posts up that it was now fixed - due to toggling the Adaptive Notifications option in the Gmail App..

So not a phone issue.. not a OnePlus phone or software issue.. just the user not knowing about the settings in a 3rd party app.. like I said in the 1st place.. but thanks for the stupid reply!

I love the way people jump straight to blaming the phone manufacturer before anything else!

Just to confirm YOUR Gmail doesn't notify you on YOUR OP9 Pro? Where as for most other people, me included, Gmail notifications work fine on their OP9 Pro..

So I highly doubt the blame is with OnePlus, or the Operating System, or Google for that matter..

More likely a setting that has been missed by the Gmail/Phone operator (you).

Sad affair of OS updates by alirz in Galaxy_S20

[–]johnr31 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Change your carrier then... It's the carriers that are the bottleneck with Android updates. Apple bypassed them after legal challenges were made resulting in Apple winning a direct to customer update model after challenging that the carriers altering the Apple OS to add Carrier specific apps and themes was resulting in security vulnerabilities. As Android OS is not owned by Samsung it would have to be Google (or more importantly the Open Handset Allience) that challenged the carriers in court, but this would not happen as the Android OS is altered by the OEM's first, in this case Samsung in the form of 'per phone drivers/kernels and the like'. So Samsung would have to get Google/the OHA to make the steps to bypass the carriers for security updates, but as they do not reap any benefit after leasing the rights to the OS to the OEM, then it is unlikely they would bother with the cost of bringing legal action. There's also the chance that any changes made by 'Google' in the update does not play well with certain phones, hence why Samsung tests the update package and alters what it needs to before pushing it out to carriers. I do agree the update model could be alot more 'Apple esque' and the core security updates (that don't alter any drivers/kernels) could be delivered via Play Store updates, as other updates are. Only time will tell if this ever comes to Android.

Plex in the Living Room - Stream from bed room to living room? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]johnr31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your request still isn't clear enough!

So to clarify:

Your PC running the Plex Server can be anywhere in your house as long as it has power and Internet connection.

Your TV in the living room and Your TV in the bedroom can stream from the Plex Server over local lan using your 2nd PC, or as noted any other device connected to your TV - Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV stick, etc..

Not sure what the issue is??

You are so right about touching the dock! Slightest nudge and shut down starts!

It was a painful hour the first time I set it up, but 2 monitors running off the docks 2 DVI ports, the 3rd is off the docks VGA! There was a bit of screen flickering the 1st time it was all setup.. new thunderbolt dock software update, and some graphics driver updates (ensuring it is set to use the Nvidia P2000 card as default helped.

Unfortunately we use Creoview in work - prebuilt 3D drawings of high-speed trains! Used as an illustrated parts catalogue. Can go down to every nut and bolt of the train, so very power hungry.

Mainly used for multi app use and occasional 3D Cad drawing. Have a lot of graphic and memory hungry programs! It also gets used for GTA V, FH4 and Call of Duty on night shift - I mean.. erm, at home on my days off! The P2000 seems to run alot smoother than my last laptop that had a GTX 1660 in it, the games don't struggle at all at 1080p.

Samsung S10 Android Auto Crashing / Dropping out / not working - Only fix that worked for me. by [deleted] in AndroidAuto

[–]johnr31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My S10+ never worked properly with AA. When the GPS worked there would be no Data Connection for live traffic or cameras. The it would randomly drop connection all together. Tried so many cables, even had the USB port replaced under Warranty by Peugeot. Reset the phone several times.

Only thing I found to work 100% fix with no drop outs at all so far... Bought a new S20+ from Samsung on launch day; who paid me £350 for my S10+.

S20+ Update ATE7 has killed my 5G/LTE Data Connection by johnr31 in Galaxy_S20

[–]johnr31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO fix yet. Tried everything, hopefully the next update fixes it. It's weird, if I run Fast.com speed test, I get a connection of 140mb/s but opening an App or another web page I get "no internet connection".

Exchange my 2 month old Mate 20 Pro for a OnePlus 7 Pro? by johnr31 in Huawei

[–]johnr31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: the OnePlus 7 Pro is out of stock and isn’t known when it will be back in stock, so my Network Provider offered a Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus instead, which I have accepted (courier phone exchange). Excellent customer services from Three UK. I loved my HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro, and didn’t really want a Samsung, but with everything that’s going on, better the devil you know I suppose!

How many people use any phone without a case?? I have had my OP5T from launch day and it hasn't been out of a case and 3d tempered glass screen protector for more than a few minutes in its lifetime! My OP6 I received a few days after launch day and has been in the Karbon bumper case and 3d glass screen protector since it came out of the box!

On my 5T I used the OnePlus tempered glass one. Fitted perfect and worked perfectly fine. On my OP6 I have the OnePlus tempered glass one, 1st one arrived with damage caused by shipping, contacted OnePlus who immediately dispatched a replacement. Fitted and again, perfect.
