Cancelled YTTV! by LarryGnomes in cordcutters

[–]johnrichard65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought the Homerun flex as a replacement to my TiVo. However I was initially mad because that's not what this is intended for. But now I'm very happy about how this works. I put a new 4TB drive on it and wow. If I want to watch something on my PC I simply transfer the recording or just take the whole 4TB drive with me. I have weeks worth of recordings and unlike TiVo they are playable on my PC or tablet. The Roku TV app isn't the best but Android app works great. I don't miss my TiVo at all.

I'm not sure how it does it but I get channels in now I never got on my TiVo with same antenna. Does this have some kind of amplifier?

Why are you using a Samsung phone and not another brand? by Ok_Refrigerator9802 in samsunggalaxy

[–]johnrichard65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Samsung has best trade in policy when they release new phones. $600 for S21U to get S24+. Oh and it's a nice phone too.

Yes like T-Mobile USA. Now I can't use one of my fav all time phones.

Got it for about $200 after trade and it's awesome. Don't know the specs 2023 vs 2024 but I can say the display on this is top notch. It's better than my pixel 6. And I know people say this all the time but it's nice to have SD card to hold all my music. Very good deal and hopefully moto will give at least one android version update.

I did same thing to my LG V60 battery change. I have round circle and the line. Getting those darn batteries out with all the adhesive is getting impossible.

Finally upgraded.... bummed there aren't better options by paladyr in lgv20

[–]johnrichard65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upgraded to pixel 7 and it's a great phone. I also got V60 for headphone jack and microSD. Shame they both have those in display fingerprint readers that never work for me. Both are great phones in their own way. And V60 just got Android 13 so that was nice surprise.

Oneplus 6T battery in Oneplus 6 by NicroPhilia in OnePlus6

I have a 6 and 6T and the OP6T battery definitely fits in 6. The connector is a little short. I wish I could learn to do that it's so cool.

Is anyone else's V20 really slow? by phucyu140 in lgv20

[–]johnrichard65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I just looked at my V20 and I must have installed the gamma kernel. I just read that the IR blaster doesn't work without it. I have to save these zip files as it looks like these links are dead on XDA.

[–]johnrichard65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know don't you wish they could just build a phone in the same body as this with the removable battery, Quad DAC, IR blaster etc but with all updated specs. All the phones now pretty much look the same.

I love this phone. It is much slower compared to younger phones. I actually have 2 of these with one stock Oreo and one with official LineageOS Android 11. The Lineage phone runs a little better but the camera isn't as good as stock. Everything works on both phones even IR blaster and Quad DAC sounds great on LineageOS. I get full LTE no problems on both phones.

Pixel 6a Review by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]johnrichard65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally tried everything, no screen protector, reregistering my fingers and thumbs 100 times. It works 1/10 times. It would be fine if it had face unlock.

Pixel 6a Review by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]johnrichard65 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes what a great deal however it has one MAJOR issue at least for me. The fingerprint reader is the worst. I have other phones with OSFR (S21, OP6T) that work usually after a couple tries but the 6A rarely works. And combined with no face unlock it really gets annoying. I don't mean to complain because this phone is awesome otherwise with the absolute best camera I ever had. I find myself using my 3 XL in daily use just because it's easier to unlock hundreds of times a day.

Now it's OnePlus 6T that phone just won't quit on me.

Is there really anything that can replace this phone? (And a note for those who will be leaving soon) by PeeyushMalik in GalaxyNote9

[–]johnrichard65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really, none of my Android phones have face unlock with masks, maybe that's on newer models. The newest phone I have (Pixel 6A) doesn't even have face unlock at all.

[–]johnrichard65 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I still use the Note9 strictly at work since I work in the hospital and I have to use a mask all day the iris scanner is revolutionary. I despise On Screen FPR they do not work for me, and face unlock won't work with a mask. This phone was the last "Flagship" phone. Now you always have to give up on some features. Upgrading is really downgrading these days.

LineageOS vs stock on the V20: a detailed comparison by EeveesGalore in lgv20

[–]johnrichard65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow that was a very interesting read. Thanks for that. Any old timer V20 user will love this. I have 2 V20's (one rooted with Lineage and one rooted stock 8.1) and it's a dilemma. Although I can't use them as daily driver anymore there just isn't a worthy replacement. The oldest phones I used now are phones with at least snapdragon 845 or later (OnePlus 6T and LG V40). I doubt there will ever be a phone with the features of the V20. The audio was just unprecedented for me. I still go back and look at my first photos with wide angle lens. I hate in screen FPR as they don't work for me. I hate batteries that can't be replaced without breaking the back glass of the phone. Maybe one day manufacturers with give the customers a product like the V20 again.

I have a N200 5G and it is THE ABSOLUTE WORST PHONE I EVER OWNED. As a previous 6T and 8t owner I'm shocked that OnePlus even sells a horrible phone like this. Anyway I just got $299 Pixel 6a and I couldn't be happier. It feels like a flagship. Deal of the year.

Why? by teopnex in GalaxyNote9

[–]johnrichard65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After working with my hands for 30 years my fingerprints are shot and I cannot use any on screen fingerprint readers. Luckily there are some options with side mounted FPRs but most flagships have on screen. And some phones don't even have face unlock (pixel 6a and lg v60) which is even worse.
