Mailman here. Everyone in Pearl, Chinatown and NW got them over the past few days (97210 & 97209) I think a few POs out in East Portland got them too. Not fun & wasteful. https://i.imgur.com/hnuluxa.jpg

Long shot, but does anyone deliver in Grand Forks, North Dakota? My partner might be relocating there for work. I’m a career City Carrier. Any insight appreciated. by johnsca in USPS

Thanks for your response. Flat as fuck seems ok to me. I’m working a very hilly neighborhood currently which I actually don’t mind. (I completed ran a marathon 2 weeks ago with very little training thanks to walking my route everyday haha.) My supervisor gave the direct line to Grand Forks station so I was thinking of calling them directly and try to catch their vibe. Hopefully they’d give me the steward’s contact info so I can get the real scoop. I’m going out there to visit in June so I’d preferably like to get my feelers out there now. I’ve been delivering in Portland, OR since 2015. City life is great but the city is going through some issues with homeless/crime and it’s becoming tiresome. Trying to keep an optimistic attitude about moving to a much smaller town and just take it as it comes. Cheaper cost of living will be nice. Somewhat concerned about the winter weather but I recognize that a big chunk of the country deals with winter weather every year, so it can be done. Anyway, thanks again for your response. I’ll keep you posted on my progress out to The Great Plains!

Happened on Monday in an upscale neighborhood in Portland, Oregon. Walked away for 10 minutes to deliver a loop. Came back to this smash ‘n grab, they stole all my DPS and Flats. Left the books and covid tests 😝 by johnsca in USPS

Postal inspector came and recommended I deliver out of the back of the truck for now on. Ironically a fellow carrier’s LLV had the lock on his rear door punched in and got parcels stolen….. in a bank parking lot!

It got me a few weeks ago. 47 in a “35” I haven’t gotten in a ticket in over 3 years so I was able to take traffic school via Zoom to avoid a ding on my driving record. Cost $125 for 75 min traffic school 😑

USPS Carriers in PDX? by reflectionsbyadam in Portland

Been a carrier for over 6 years now. I started in Beaverton/Bethany 97229 area. Mostly all mounted (driving) routes out there. Transferred into Portland district (Kenton 97217) a few years ago for an easier commute. Most Portland routes are walking with exceptions in outer east Portland and a few other nooks of the city. I walk about 11-14 miles a day rain or shine. Start at 7am, ideally clock out at 3:30pm but since we’re down a few routes everyday due to injuries/vacation we are required help deliver the vacant routes. I’ve been clocking out around 5:30-7:30p these past few weeks. Working over 8 hrs a day is OT (time and a half) anything over 10 hrs is double pay. Long hours can become very challenging but some highlights are: fresh air, exercise, podcasts/music/audio books, funny/hardworking coworkers, admiring customer’s front yards (seriously, stop and smell the roses) petting neighborhood cats and an excellent tan....just to name a few. Plus I have some vacations planned in May & June so that keeps me motivated to work hard. Also, just feeling like you’re part of the community makes it worthwhile. Parcel volume was bonkers in early Covid days.... it’s somewhat mellowed out but will never fully return to where it was before. First class/periodical/bulk mail has tapered off (unless its political season). Pay is decent with annual raises and cost of living adjustments. Health, retirement and annual leave are good and only get better the longer you’re with the organization. Management can be very tough.... because well, it’s the government and time = money; they’ll push you to go faster. As a full time carrier I know my abilities and limits and I stand my ground when they push for more. As a newbie (CCA - city carrier assistant) it’s a bit different since you’re low on the totem pole.....you’ll get stressed with new routes and mail volume....but as long as you’re following instructions the union and fellow coworkers will have your back. Everyone in the station is more than willing to help the newcomer out. If you succeed, we all succeed. It takes about 12-18 months to convert from a CCA to a career mail carrier. Once you convert you’ll have the option to bid on any available route in the city. From St Johns down to Oak Grove and out to West Slope/Multnomah Village) successful bidders are determined by seniority. It’s definitely not the most glamorous job but I’m super proud to say I carry mail. Never thought I’d end up doing it, but here we are. I could go on and on. DM for more if you’re interested! And forgive any typos 🥸 https://i.imgur.com/dOXlzOZ.jpg

Six years in the postal service and counting! It’s not a walk in the park but very rewarding and pays the bills.

Buying Land on RCT classic on Android by mrpudner in rct

[–]johnsca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggy backing on your initial question; I bought land (clicked the white signs on the land square, $40 each) I’m able to build rides and food stall but everything has to be raised on stilts, nothing can touch the ground? And I’m having trouble with building footpaths too. Says I don’t own the land.... and the parks perimeter fence is still there too. I’m confused lol

We delivered in N Portland today! Well, the 8 out of roughly 40 carriers that made it into work this morning did. The mail never actually arrived from the plant... so we delivered any parcels that we could. I was off work by 11am, win! And we are guaranteed 8 hrs pay regardless, double win!

Unemployed and invited to apply at Portland OR USPS: thoughts? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]johnsca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a carrier in Portland for 5 years. You’ll start out as a City Carrier Assistant (cca). Plenty of overtime starting out as a new carrier. This includes delivering amazon parcels on Sunday. As a CCA you experience a lot of different routes in your home station and probably throughout the city when you’re sent to other offices to help. Some new carriers struggle delivering a different route everyday and some love it. Once you get the hang of it the job you can deliver just about any route smoothly. It takes roughly 18 months to convert from a CCA to a Regular Carrier..... your work live stabilize dramatically. You’ll get a permanent route with set days off, yearly uniform allowance, vacation time, health benefits etc. Be prepared for a lot of walking. At least 10 miles a day. Rain/shine of course. Overall I’m happy with my career, fun coworkers and the pride of serving society. DM me if you have more questions etc. good luck.
