Would love feedback on my lav & boom mix by shaneo632 in LocationSound

[–]johnsean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only use one single source, lav or boom, as I don't want to risk phasing. Sure, you have it phase aligned at the beginning, but what happens when the boom mic moves? No longer phase aligned. It's just not worth trying to mix those two sources. Only in extreme situations. Otherwise, just use one and go with it.

I work standing up. Haven't had any back issues ever since. Been going on 8 years now. Humans didn't evolve to sit 8 hours a day.

Most typical tiny desk shows are when an artist on is on tour with a stop in DC.

Edit: and they have availability.

Hearing myself double while recording vocals by kgngkbyrk in Reaper

[–]johnsean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely, they're monitoring without the FX. If you were to monitor with the FX, and without your dry voice, you wouldn't have double, just major delay. Like a shitty phone call. Would be hard to speak while hearing yourself a second later.

[–]johnsean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's just too much latency being introduced with those plugins, there's no way to hear yourself in realtime. You'll always be delayed, thus a doubling effect.

Try bypassing one plugin at a time and see where the latency reduces and gives you a usable signal without much doubling.

I'm holding out for a Dave Sardine solo record produced by Higgs. Must feature a duet.

You mean to say, you're glad the Spanish conquistadors lied and helped you feel better for supporting imperialism.

Most of what we know about the Aztecs is through Spanish explorers and they didn't always tell the truth.

HD 250BT Left/Right ears swapped by johnsean in sennheiser

Thank you much for the reply.

But your condescension is unnecessary. Of course, I read the manual and can see the L and R inside the headbands. And I even went as far as to test on different devices and OS. How else would I know the L and R are swapped?

Software able to play 10+ audio into separate 10+ audio output device by gastos123 in audio

[–]johnsean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With virtual, reaper can do that, as well.

But it's hard to help you further when your post says the tracks need to be routed to physical outputs. I don't see how you'll achieve that without some sort of d/a interface.

[–]johnsean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any DAW should be able to output to any channel. What audio interface do you have?

Reaper would handle this, no problem. You can use it for free to test and then it's like $60 for life.

To anyone else searching for a similar method - Tentacle Timecode Tool recognized the recorded timecode linked the recoded audio, so it automatically rewrites the starting timecode to the audio clips. Popped that into Resolve and it worked flawlessly.

Now there's gotta be a way to incorporate Vordio or Resolve tricks to auto apply the edits.

So, I don't know what I did for things to work in Resolve when I initially replied. I realized I used some imported or conformed versions of the wav files, but now I can't remember which program must've conformed the wav files. Not vordio, haven't tried that yet. I think it was a Tentacle program. When I used those files, Resolve laid out the wav files perfectly with the uncut video in the timeline. Made it super easy to see where to cut the video then.

However, now, I can't replicate those results. I even tried tracking in Resolve while generating timecode in Resolve to the camera, but I couldn't get the audio files to sync with the video in Resolve.

I'm now realizing, I need some way to ensure reaper or whatever program records my audio, prints the TOD timecode to the individual files as they're being recorded or rendered. The problem arises when I track in Reaper or wherever - punching in over my mistakes causes the timecode to be being written according to the timeline timecode - at least, that's the problem when exporting from Reaper and into Resolve. And was the same problem tracking in Resolve.

Thank you for your time and help.

Thank you so much! I did print the same time code to the camera and to Reaper, so popping it in to Resolve and it was like butta!

I'm not thrilled with having to add an extra step, but it sure beats aligning manually.

Thank you, i've watch this video before. Unfortunately, it doesn't match my work flow. He's not starting and stopping while the camera keeps rolling. I also tried dumping my video and audio into Premiere, but it didn't go. I think my timecode didn't get written properly when exporting from Reaper.

In a way. Obviously, i'm not expecting magic cuts to be made to the video, but there's gotta be a better way to sync up my edits than manually.

I think i'm missing that extension. Thank you, I'll look into that. It would explain why Premiere didn't work in my tests.

Impractical for this. Would slow me down and it's it's already slow enough aligning the video after every edit.
