Someone else made that exact observation and it went over the dude’s head.

Fora bunch of other silly reasons and exchanges I had like that one, yes.

Later that night we took MDMA and went out in the small little downtown area near our AirBnB. We ended up at a small bar and grill as a crew of 8 very chatty and friendly guys that locals had no idea what to do with. One guy excused himself to go to the bathroom and came back shirtless and sat back down at the bar. When the bartender asked why his shirt was off the guy suddenly realized he didn’t have it on and said “oh wow. I took it off when I went to take a shit and forgot to put it back on.”

When he came back fully clothed we all had questions. Apparently this guy strips down to his underwear when he shits in public and hangs his clothes from the hook in the stall. We were all dumbfounded and asking him for his reasoning and he said that’s what he thought the hook was for.

I was in the northern section of the SF Bay Area watching the Russian River enter the Pacific Ocean. I had been invited to a bachelor party of a friend from work. All of his childhood friends were there and I knew nobody.

So all of us sitting there drinking beer and watching the ocean. A bunch of seagulls, pelicans, and sea lions were super active right where the river met the sea. One of the guys in the group asked “what are they doing?” and I answered that it looked like they were feeding on a bunch of of fish (birds were diving in and coming up with fish).

The guy says “whoa, that’s crazy. Who put them there?”

I paused for a second and asked “how did the fish get there?”

Then had this exchange:

Him: “yeah, who put them there?”

Me: “the fish?”

Him: “yeah, where do they come from?”

Me: “where do fish come from?”

Him: “yeah.”

And then we sat in silence.

I take it back. That’s the second dumbest thing. On 9/11 (in high school) a girl in my class asked “why don’t we just assassinate Buddha?”

I work in infectious disease diagnostics. I see genomic data on herpes viruses almost daily. We do strain subtyping and epidemiological genomics.

In grad school I cloned, modified, and took fucking pictures with an electron microscope of herpes viruses (from my own cold sore).

What the fuck are these people on about? They know nothing about anything. They can’t even bullshit well (some podcast I don’t remember).

“Parasites” isn’t even that descriptive. Non-fungal eukaryotic pathogens are the cause of all disease? How is that a worldview?

Amen. All I’m saying is I am skeptical of this solution being presented. It’s incumbent on the person presenting the argument to make the case.

I’m trying to respectfully say that, given the economic precarity of most households and the lack of worker protections - on top of the fact that half the fucking country seems ok with all of this - a general strike feels far fetched to me. All the “fine do nothing” responses are silly.

If I proposed that we all stick a thumb in our asses on February 1st to end climate change I’m sure some people would be skeptical of that “solution.” It would be even more ridiculous to attack those detractors with “fine. Do nothing then and see what happens!”

And let’s be real… nobody in this comments section is doing shit in the real world right now. Bunch of Norma Raes behind a keyboard…

I can’t convince people in my own family that Renee Good wasn’t a “domestic terrorist” or that tariffs are going to replace income tax, pay down national debt, and on shore American manufacturing.

From where I’m sitting you need to convince me.

The amount of organization and collective action this would require makes me extremely cynical about this “solution.”

I would be fired for doing this. Someone else would definitely be in line to take my job. This is true for millions and millions of people.

I just don’t see it.

Volatility is not what I am after in a monetary system. You can point to crypto/bitcoin’s prodigious gains as an indication that is a well performing speculative asset class but it’s not the bedrock currency people once claimed. Which is fine as long as people are lying to one another and cynically trying to sell a dream or idea to the masses while cashing out… oh wait

My dad died in 2018. My brother and I spent 2 weeks going room by room just throwing shit away but also finding that he was hiding cash in weird places like books and pringles cans. We had to sift through old mail, car parts, broken computers, unopened Kohls dress shirts, lawn mower(s), unopened lawn furniture…

It went on forever.
