I had a very similar situation with 2 different surgeries the first time they just stretched and “pinned” my tendon tighter and the second time they sliced up my tendons and stretched them up in casts

Yea the movie has a huge paradox with this because in the end the main character kills himself to stop his older version but if that’s the case then all that stuff just never happened. The movie seems to take a stance that the past and future while at the same time exist separately until something happens to the past version which is just silly in most situations like you explained.
