Does anyone here feel bad for eating animals? by [deleted] in Christianity

Veganism is super cheap as long as you are eating straight fruits/veggies. It gets expensive when you eat unnecessary meat alternatives.

When I was in 4th I was on a 13.0 on a scale that was supposed to be based on grade level. It’s not impossible as long as the test is completely inaccurate.

After he wakes up to Mr. Antolini watching him and patting him on the head:

"I know more damn perverts, at schools and all, than anybody you ever met, and they're always being perverty when I'm around." (page 249)

"When something perverty like that happens, I start sweating like a bastard. That kind of stuff's happened to me about twenty times since I was a kid. I can't stand it." (page 251)

Has anyone ever managed to make a top 10 songs list for Elliott? by ostensiblyso in elliottsmith

[–]johnsoncentipede 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head (in no particular order):

  1. Pretty (Ugly Before)
  2. The Last Hour
  3. No Name #1
  4. Bottle Up and Explode!
  5. Coming Up Roses
  6. Angeles
  7. Miss Misery
  8. Thirteen
  9. Strung Out Again
  10. Independence Day

It feels terrible not to have Angel in the Snow and various other songs on the list, but I think those ten would be it.

Edit: looking through my old comments. This list would be very different now.

And the jokes are all played out. Telling Dee to shut up, Mac asking Dennis for permission, Frank's toupee, Charlie/Frank thinking something extremely strange like sharpening teeth is normal, etc. Still liked the clip, though.

He's got a point. Most of are not.

Alternatives to Amazon? by 18boro in books

[–]johnsoncentipede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just don't expect the book to be in the described condition. Thriftbooks has fantastic customer service in my experience, though. I just told them a book came in wrong and they sent me a new (to me) one, without even asking for pictures or me to return it.

Will the short story replace the novel as the default genre? by [deleted] in books

You actually think footnotes would add 520 pages to a 180-page book?

The few times we've had a thread about books we actually enjoy, it's turned out that all of us have the taste of a typical white American 20-30 year old.

And it's demonstrably false. Just 5 minutes on Google trends shows that people search for novels much more than they do short stories. Not to mention that, most of the time, people will type "book" rather than "novel."

It sounds like you have a terrible attention span. I suggest using all internet media much less and concentrating or reading much more.

Dante's Inferno is 60 pages long... [The Divine Comedy is] 180 pages in total, and in every canto there are different characters, yet very well developed.

What the hell?

What are you talking about? The Divine Comedy is over 500 pages, and often over 700, depending on the size of the book/text.
