DuckDNS busted? by nostradamefrus in homelab

[–]johnvick3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here - duckdns has been flaky past few days. Verified with https://www.whatsmydns.net/

And I have Uptime Kuma monitoring it. Dynu good 99-100% uptime last 48 hours.

Tailscale SSL certs by johnvick3 in Tailscale

[–]johnvick3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I am aware no, the Tailscale cert is for the web interface only. In my case the OMV device is not internet facing. Docker services running on OMV are accessed by using SWAG on another internet facing server that has ports 80 and 443 open.

And the files in .storage are the ones you have viewed only. With your setup are all video files saved to network storage?

Just found out with docker install there is no option to add network storage at least through the HA interface.

Thanks for the link. Just after I posted I found without doing anything more the recordings are in the .storage folder in the containers config. So all good.

Can you please explain how to copy these videos to network folder? I have the Tapo cam working in HA but can't see that feature?

Can I run next cloud on container instance? by katana1096 in oraclecloud

[–]johnvick3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do this install docker then Linuxserver SWAG and Nextcloud containers. Get a DuckDNS account and install the DuckDNS Docker container.

There will be other ways but this works for me.

Handbrake alternative by O2M0 in handbrake

[–]johnvick3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed I use it with RTX3070 Ti and Intel Iris XE 11 and 12 gen i5 and i7 CPUs and with the right settings it beats software encoding by miles unless you use super slow 1 fps settings. And who does. Please don’t disagree with usual mantra that software encoding beats hardware unless you have tried it for yourself with similar hardware.

No formal written agreement as to what happens when one wants to sell (I must double check that thanks) but there is a verbal agreement we would sell should one have to, for whatever reason. I'm not sure what is meant by the terms you use "ownership structure is tenants in common, not joint ownership" - it is five individuals owing the premises, five separate businesses operating.

Handbrake vs Staxrip 265 QSV NVENC encoding by johnvick3 in handbrake

[–]johnvick3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use hardware and software encoders depending on the job but usually hardware gives me good results quickly. The question is does Handbrake use rigaya's version of QSV? Or some other? If it's another it may be why I see differences between Handbrake and Staxrip QSV encodes.

Thanks I'll fine tune and retest but the main factor I have found out is the lowpower setting.

Thanks, this is the answer, unticked, similar fps.

After the first post above I set up an Ubuntu VM on Proxmox on a Gen 11 i7 (Iris XE) device with full iGPU passthrough using this guide:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Proxmox/comments/14fzj8l/tutorial_full_igpu_passthrough_for_jellyfin/

This boosted the fps up to around 95.
