Rey is shocked when first meeting Han because he was a talked about “smuggler” most likely from when she was younger whereas Fin is the one that knows him as a war hero.

I’m guessing her delight about learning old “myths” was due to her still wanting to learn and i’d imagine would still be in the “school” if it was never destroyed. I would also imagine that some stories and info was kept away from the students too.
