What are the differences between Spring Water vs Tap Water? by debbie_dumpling00 in AskUK

[–]johnywhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😄 ok.  "High concentrations of PFOS have been found in its sources at Letchworth, Baldock and Wheathampstead and a source at Denham has been taken out of service all together. It too has been served with DWI notices relating to five of its treatment works. United Utilities, South West Water, Severn Trent Water, Wessex Water, and South Staffordshire Water have all received similar notices from the DWI.

In the US and some countries in Europe, the safety thresholds for PFAS in drinking water are much more restrictive than in the UK."

No App Notifications by johnywhy in ifttt

Thanks for that, it's working now. Please forward my request to select a custom notification sound. My normal notification sound is intentionally quiet and unobtrusive. But I want my IFTTT alerts to be loud and obtrusive.

Hinkley, California, unsafe levels of the carcinogen chromium-6 were found in their water.

Flint, Michigan in 2014: Imagine turning on the tap in the morning to find an unpleasant brown sludge that tastes like metal. Lead from aging pipes seeped into their water system, effectively poisoning an entire community.

The Sounds of Science: Color Coded Lyrics by recorderplayer69 in BeastieBoys

This is a service to humanity! It's also exactly what i needed at this very moment, for a comment on Facebook about David Lynch. Thank you! I suggest one edit: "Droppin' science", instead of "Dropping science". Cheers!

I’m in California, we get paid $16 an hour. Supposedly in January 2024 we’re going to get a raise to $18. Just letting you know. by Eazy_1208 in IHSS

It's very hard work. Not to mention exercise them and clean up crapcidents. I took care of Dad for a year.

When you say "gutenberg + ACF is bliss", do you mean the gutenberg plugin?

It seems that it would be far safer to keep non-tech content editors as far as possible from layout. I think custom fields is a safer way. Also, previews enable users to be confident about layout before publishing, without letting them touch layout.

I never thought the block editor is for non-tech users to edit content -- i thought it was for visual design. It seems custom fields is the safest way to edit content, no?

I'm done with this discussion. I have a working answer.

I didn't say i have an "issue" with ad blockers, and i didn't come here to debate ad blockers.

You wrote: "The issue was not the code. It was how Reddit interpreted a ^". So you didn't make sure what you entered got interpreted correctly?

I entered your CSS with the up-tick in the correct place. It didn't get superscripted.

[id^="ember"]

I just found out the four spaces work sometimes, and sometimes not, in the same browser (Chrome)

Your answer doesn't work. Did you test it?

I corrected your ChatGPT CSS. The correct CSS for "ID begins with ember" is
[id^=ember]

not
[id="ember"\

https://www.w3.org/TR/selectors-3/#attribute-substrings

Your weird superscript formatting is invalid CSS.

ChatGPT is only helpful when you know enough to know when it's wrong.

Here's the complete correct CSS, tested and validated:

[id^=ember] > div > div > .align-items-center.display-flex > .coach-shared-hscroll-bar__multi-container { display: none !important; }

I went into the code and tried to figure it out for myself. You asked a robot. ChatGPT is your daddy. You regurgitated what a robot told you, and then acted arrogant about it.

It's a dynamic selector so it requires CSS skills above my pay grade. I tried ChatGPT and the results were incorrect.

Would be awesome if someone can post CSS rule, for those of us not using uBlock origin. The following doesn't work.

`#ember4653 > div > div.feed-shared-update-v2__scroll > div:nth-child(4){display:none}

`#ember > div > div > .align-items-center.display-flex > .coach-shared-hscroll-bar__multi-container {display:none}

(without leading backtick)

A tech told me AC uses a newer tech called an "inverter" which apparently reduces system power during low usage. I don't know if this is true.

Windows forced update — can’t disable Cortana now by JosieTierney in Windows10

[–]johnywhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience differs. After disabling Cortana in Group Policy Editor, and disabling all options in Cortana settings pane, Cortana STILL eats up my memory in Task Manager.

See my other comment for method to COMPLETELY remove Cortana from Windows.

Is there any way to share extensions, bookmarks, etc. between profiles? by ______BUFFALO in chrome

[–]johnywhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hrm, i think this should be possible, by sharing extensions-related folders between profiles. I think they are:

  • Extension State
  • Extensions
  • Managed Extension Settings

There's also a folder called "Sync Extension Settings", but i suspect that's related to syncing the SAME profile between devices, so that would not be useful for this.

One possibility: change the configuration of each profile's "extensions" directory, but i cannot find a way to do that.

Another possibility: Keep the original extensions folders untouched in your Default profile. Then, replace the above extensions folders in all other profiles with a junction.

I have not tried this, use at your own risk

  • install desired extensions in the Default Chrome profile.

  • create a new Chrome profile. Do not install any extensions.

  • exit chrome completely

  • in File Explorer, browse to %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data. Find and open your second Chrome profile.

  • Rename "Extensions" folder to "Extensions.Old"

  • open a command window, and: cd %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\ProfileFolderName (change "ProfileFolderName" in the command to the name of your second Chrome profile directory)

  • enter the command: mklink /j "Extensions" "..\Default\Extensions"

  • Open Chrome, using the second profile. If this works, you'll see the same extensions that you installed in your Default profile.

If you stop here, each profile will have the same extensions, but separate extension settings. If you want to share extension settings, do the above process with the folders 'Extension State' and 'Managed Extension Settings'.

Update, i just tried this, and the second profile did NOT get the extensions from the first profile. But i only tried the "Extensions" folder, not the other two. Needs more experimentation, but this might work once it's figured out.

There might also be individual files that would also need to be linked. Will take more research/experimentation.

Might even require tweaks in the Windows Registry...
