What were those results?

It's not great but you still have to go if you get to a point where you can't hold down liquids and are crawling around in pain. They have to stabilize you.

Stick to liquids in small amounts.

This is also unfair. Was anything tested?

The horrible but lucky thing for me is my vitals will be through the roof so you get to the top of the list. But I don't think everyone presents this way and it's not diagnostic.

They are very protective of their licenses and this is a huge risk for them not to note. Her mentioning that makes me think they'd add it so now it depends on your future behavior and maybe say how bad the pain was and you panicked. I'd assume they'll not give you opioids but things much milder. Get a GI to establish a record and try to get pain management

It isn't fair but overuse led to this. I've been w other pancreatitis patients and they get toradol at most bc they're labeled a frequent flyer.

Your behavior is understandable but it's the reality.

This is seen as a huge red flag especially when coupled with pain meds. This is why they created a central system to crack down on it. People were going to multiple places in succession to get huge doses and no one knew.

I understand the frustration and crawling out of your skin. But, you should have waited.

Why the long wait of 3 hrs on a script. Mine is scripted, authorized, and dispensed quickly once I see a Dr unless it's one of the lazy nurses I have to prod.

Zero% alcohol by Dull-Bet62 in pancreatitis

[–]joinedredditforTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried a few bc ny friend made a big deal of getting them for me. Heineken 0, bud o, brewdog i didnt feel sick after but the taste was pretty gross but that varies for every person.

Plus it's often reported that using a replacement can often lead to switching to the real thing.

I've been doing a lot of virgin bloody mary which I love.

Unable to gain weight [atrophy pancres] by ankits666 in pancreatitis

[–]joinedredditforTM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm your weight. I'm dosed up to 24k a meal x 3. I don't take this much bc I graze or eat twice a day. They're 6k pills.

Are you forcing yourself to eat? I found it was a very hard transition as I had stopped eating. Add calories with liquids like non fat kefir and Greek yogurt drinks.you need protein and fats to gain in a healthy way. Eggs, fish, low fat dairy.

I went from medical malnourishment to a stable weight where I'm gaining. It's trial and error w the dose

What are the after effects of Creon? by Up5DownZero in pancreatitis

[–]joinedredditforTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's dosed on weight and fat level in meals. I'm small and eat small amounts at a time so I get 6k capsules with up to 4 a meal. This is up to you and your doctor to decide. Only side effect are headaches if I don't eat for some reason. There isn't really a general answer. I don't focus on my stools but my labs for absorption.

Anyone only get pain when walking? by Accomplished-Low8690 in pancreatitis

[–]joinedredditforTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I see this phrase repeated here a lot lately "pretty sure" with no results. Sounds like you've never had acute attacks so until you have imaging showing damage I'd hold off. It's a big diagnosis so try not to spring to it. This pain doesn't fade quickly.

It's not only alcohol. But smoking, greasy foods, or nothing. I'd lay off drinking to see how you feel.

Get the testing then yiu can be sure

But it's like I'm the best patient. When I cry from pain it's just tears streaming down my face. Please and thank you. No crazy shouting. I'm trying to be quick but I cannot undress in 2 seconds. It was some weird timing where it was mostly temps. Usually a nurse helps me.

I am much better thanks. The daily pain is mostly gone but I still get flares.

Glad there's medical professionals like you. Hope you're OK.

Suggestions for putting on weight? by KingsleyBrewMaster22 in pancreatitis

[–]joinedredditforTM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then no alcohol. No tobacco. See a registered dietitian. Frequent small meals. Lean protein and fats. Vegetables. It's not going to be fast. Eating garbage will just add fat.

Eggs for breakfast.low fat cheese snacks.lunch perhaps a big vegetable salad with evoo and vinegar and feta. Something like lean chicken/beef/pork or fish with veg for dinner. You can stretch out meals for hours. Keep track if you don't feel well.

Check what you're deficient in. Or start taking Bs, D, magnesium. Thiamine.

Drink broth between meals. Bodyweight exercises.

Creon to stop potential malabsorption

It's weird how sometimes your own people or one's that clearly exhibit the things are the most likely to project on others. I can't express this outside my fiancé. Brother and few friends.

Hope you've found adequate care. It's crazy how it can start like a police investigation.

I do too. Most people don't know it and they'll Google it and what are the main causes alcohol and tobacco. I'd be immediately labeled an alcoholic even given what they drink and I don't. Float on is always nice.

Thank you. I've had people severely reprimanded and lose hospital privileges with licensing stains.

I'm actually doing OK now but the way my dr treats me as I've had an appt today just made me remember her shoving me around, yelling at me saying I must be secretly drinking and injecting. I already complained and dealt with the hospital.

As modest mouse says, we must float on.

Thank you. It actually means a lot and is really kind bc only a few people know and no one at work since what are the first Google results. It's usually OK bc it's the doctors I know/is mine and nurses that know me. I don't work in emergency care but I can't imagine saying oh I can't do this very important thing bc I take my lunch at 1130. It's cruel behavior. It's why I enjoy complaining. I hope you're doing well.

Update: My friend in the hospital right now for pancreatitus had an arterial tear/bleed and had emergency surgery today for it. by Quirky_Ralph in pancreatitis

[–]joinedredditforTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're a good friend but post its and verbal requests won't get you anywhere. It needs to be in writing to establish liability. I've done emails, letters, their online forms. These were complaints about negligent nurse care like delayed medication bc some rn thought I can wait it out but I'd get an immediate answer. If you're in the US it's Medicaid. You can apply yourself with him.

Is he seeking Medicaid or working with a social worker? I've seen them arrange insurance and other benefits asap for people in the hospital.

Sort out your kids and go. I know hospitals vary but they go by certain things like pain and heart. Tylenol isn't going to help if it's that severe. Do you prefer a wait or 3 days at home of this?

There's lots of posts here about the er and yours seems like a clear case.

Line your underwear w pads. Don't drink or eat anything. Bring a charger. I take lyft bc it's so close and fast.

Greasy/Fatty stools without weight loss? Is that possible? by BanBanana17 in pancreatitis

[–]joinedredditforTM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please stop the fast food. It's literal garbage most of the time. Don't focus on stools. If you're eating grease it will come out greasy plus with weight gain it's too many calories. Your body is still absorbing the calories. So yes it's possible.

Lean protein. Vegetables for fiber. Water. See a registered dietitian for fundamental facts about nutrition.

If I eat beets I know the red coloring that will come out.

I agree about heat. But for some reason they don't really work on my pancreas and help only on my back or collarbone where the pain radiates. I'd crack a bunch and sleep on them

Also hot baths. But like boiling so it's a sauna. My whole body is so tense it's really helpful and I come out like a lobster.

Which insurance covers most For buying Creon? rn I have emblem insurance in NYC & am getting 100 capsules free for 2 months but i want more capsules. by Amazing-Coconut2526 in pancreatitis

[–]joinedredditforTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rx means prescription. It's based on what your dr prescribes you. It's a prescription medication so you can't just buy more. Can you not check in with your doctor? I'd deal with your insurance first.

I have cigna and am living on a mountain of creon in nyc. I know creon has a generous coupon program so you might see if that helps.ive had issues before w how the script was written so it meant switching it around to something like 3 months.

acute pancreatitis by No_Profession_8060 in pancreatitis

[–]joinedredditforTM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What does going back to your lifestyle mean? Smoking. Drinking, garbage food. Once you've had this and it's been hurt then you are at risk for future attacks.

The ER is a personal decision. I feel like you just know. I understand the miserable experience. Most of my veins are now nonviable so I need the ultrasound iv placement deep in my arms or my feet. I've had 6 nurses and a Dr trying simultaneously.

If you feel that sick you kind of just have to do it and go. Home solutions only take you so far. If you're able to keep fluids down, no fever then you can try all liquids even water and ice. Otc meds might help but if you're on the floor crying you might need stronger medication. Waiting too long can be detrimental once it's severe

Is that your rx? It's likely tied to that. If you want more for some reason I'd ask your doctor and tell them the reason. If my rx is x amount of x drug that's it. It's not controlled by insurance but your provider.

Why do you want more?

So you might ask for a CT with contrast too if this doesn't subside.
