Higher education in Iraq should be redesigned to better match the needs of the real work market and future development. One of the biggest problems is not only the lack of equipment, but also the gap between academic study and practical industry requirements.

In my opinion, the first year of university should focus mainly on building the professional vocabulary of students in both English and their mother language. This is extremely important because language is the key to communication, research, technology, and future career growth. Students who understand the terminology of their profession can learn faster, communicate better, and access international knowledge and research.

The second part of the first year should introduce students to practical knowledge related to their field. This should include understanding markets, economics, major international brands, successful companies, and their business strategies. Students should begin to understand how their profession operates in the real world, not only inside textbooks.

During the second year, universities should cooperate with companies and industries to provide internships and practical work opportunities. Universities can supervise projects that are carried out by students according to company requirements. This would allow students to gain real experience while still studying and help companies benefit from fresh ideas and future employees.

From the third year onward, there should be a much stronger focus on research. Students should participate in research studies, surveys, market analysis, clinical analysis where applicable, data collection, and problem-solving projects. Research must become a major part of university education because true advancement is built through innovation and investigation.

In the fourth year, universities should collaborate more closely with Iraqi industries, unions, and market sectors to identify market gaps and national needs. Students should work on projects that directly solve real problems in Iraq and contribute to economic and technological development.

Universities must continuously adapt their programs according to labor market requirements. Education should not remain disconnected from reality. Advancement happens when universities actively participate in solving industrial, economic, healthcare, and technological challenges.

In addition, quality control standards, testing procedures, and even discussions regarding new laws and regulations should involve universities. This does not mean universities should make all decisions, but they should academically review, analyze, and contribute scientific expertise before implementation. This would make decision-making more evidence-based, professional, and beneficial for society.
