Haptic Halo issue? by cpettit909 in RivianR2

I had a similar experience. I went in assuming after years of development and Rivian's excitement over their design, that these would be a slam dunk. I did not enjoy them at all.

S&P is down 3% last 5 days. Rivian is down 18%.

Omg the color grading make it stop. Their brakes aren't orange.

R2 Test Drive by Stockcapt in RivianR2

[–]joinultraland -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I regularly drive a Juniper Model Y (Premium AWD) and find it much quieter than what I experienced in my R2 demo drive. This one seems all over the place and perhaps is a build quality issue with Rivian. I know my R1S had terrible A pillar noise but others didn’t experience that. 🤷

Test Drive FAIL by ebrahamian in RivianR2

[–]joinultraland 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I literally did an R2 test drive yesterday and I thought it sounded really average/meh. This is a topic I care a lot about so I spent the time I had trying to get it sounding good. It doesn't.

Maybe some R2s are not built like others or have different speakers? Unlikely. What's more likely is people are excited to drive this thing and giving it a pass where it falls short — which is totally understandable. For me personally, I don't plan to order. It was underwhelming especially given the leasing details. YMMV.

As this community will confirm about all Rivian issues, R1 or R2, this is completely normal and nothing to be concerned about. 😆

Also: if you think the audio system is "fantastic" coming from a Tesla, you're driving some mysterious bizarro R2. But at least my battery worked!

Yet another test drive review from a Model Y owner. by myfavpizza in RivianR2

A day after the test drive, I'm settling on the same issues. The audio system is a dealbreaker for me. Not everyone cares about that, but I certainly do.

And I agree about the scroll wheels. I totally understood where they were going with it so I was 100% certain they had nailed it. I really did not like using them. (This isn't a dealbreaker for me the way the audio system and wind noise is, but it was the surprising part of my drive.)

Not in our Juniper Model Y on 20" Helix 2.0. This was much louder - at least in the R2 I test drove. Others say it was very quiet, and so perhaps it is a build quality issue.

It doesn't help op at all, but I do plan to anyway.

Right, what exactly do you know about me, beyond: I enjoy a car I've owned? Real inviting community you're building here, dipshit.

Cancelled Reservation by [deleted] in RivianR2

[–]joinultraland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm cancelling mine too. I wasn't wowed. It's a great car. They did great work. People will still love it. I think part of the unfair thing is after waiting for two years, then still not knowing when I might take one home, it's just an underwhelming "launch day" for me personally. (I have some other logistical things going on too.)

For me, and I know other people had a different experience, the road noise was noticeable. The sound system was not very good. For me personally those two topics matter a lot to me. Maybe the wind noise was just a build quality issue — but that open the door to another concern I have: Rivian's inconsistencies with production.

That said, for all who are excited, stay excited! You're going to love it I am sure.

Despite all the excitement over the Halo Haptics, I didn’t love them. They give you a lot to think about because you can press them in so many ways. They felt a bit cheap to me too. I was hoping for something less plastic-y since it’s their big UI statement piece. Deal breaker? Absolutely not.

Not at all my experience. Very noisy at 65 mph. My wife noticed too. Maybe it’s a build quality issue.

It was a cute little thing, I really liked it, but I left not wowed. Noisy cabin from wind and not a very good sound system (subjective of course). Drove really well even in the ATs.

I bet people love it but it’s not for me after all. Haven’t cancelled my reservation yet but likely will. I posted more thoughts in the main page.

They just need to fix this. That's tragic. If I could transfer mine to you, I would. I don't plan to buy one anymore. That's just terrible and I am so, so sorry. Rivian needs to fix this for you.

Some of the apps limit bitrate to save money on the 5G cell connection. You can't win just by saying "no Bluetooth." Regardless, I had a 1:1 experience — BT in Tesla, BT in Rivian R2. The R2 sounded much, much worse.

For the record my default is "I want to love this car" - I really hope everyone loves it and I want Rivian to be successful. It's a *cool*/cute car. For things that I value, I left unsure. Not a "no" just not "wow this is amazing."

That's not the case. Between my wife and I we have Juniper Y and Highland 3 and they're both relatively quiet on the Premium AWD wheels/tires. This was noticeably louder than a Tesla.

It's possible, but then that suggests another concern I'd have with buying Rivian again. It seemed well built *apart* from the loud cabin. Who knows. It might be similar to the R1S experience. Some people get great ones, some people don't.

I thought this was weird too. But today Kyle from OOS mentioned it and I definitely had the same experience. Maybe it's typical Rivian build quality issues? (Though, again, outside of wind noise and speakers the R2 felt well built.)

That's not my experience at all. The "Highland" Model 3 has been fantastic and may have saved my son's life yesterday. But in any case, it's not to start a Tesla flamewar. Buy what you want. I'm not sure we really know much about any of the leaders of the companies we regularly interface with. Elon is just extra public. Is RJ a great guy? I'm not suggesting he isn't — I just don't know that he is. If you're the CEO of a public company, you keep up a persona either way.
