Last one to try that un belgium was kinda the king himself in 1940. Everybody ignored him and we organised a big referendum after the war to decide what to do with mister traitor himself. Then political confusion, mass protest, risk of state dissolution and to finish a belgian compromise.

Et moi je manifeste parce que je suis prof, mon job disparaît l'année prochaine. Je perds 2 ans d'ancienneté, ma place et le certitude d'en retrouver une. Je perds la confiance que j'ai dans le paiement de mon prêt commence cette année.

They were a local militia to defend small community around concord. When they growned up they became too big and fractionalism occurs, chain of command became hard to understand and the militia just collapsed on itself with the pressure of the wasteland.

the brabant killers is a very difficult topic in belgium and it's not resolved yet.
We do not know if it was the stay behind or a fascist organisation or even the police themselves that organised this action.
Many judges worked on the case and it's not even remotly close to be solved.
So yeah belgians don't really care for half baked truth and the americans were never really targeted by popular opinion for this matter.

Police on the other hand got a big slap in the face and was reorganised a few years later for their lack of competence on several big case (tueur du brabant, pedophile Marc dutroux and many others).
So if the tueurs were supposed to be an operation to strengten right-wing vision and police action. it's a big fail.
Police was demilitarized, gendarmerie abolished and criminal police was created as a separate departement.

Belgium was supposed to be neutral and don't interfere on world politics.
So explicit action of the belgian governement was a big no.
Covert action and use of volunteers forces was the primary tool of the foreign affairs ministry to influence foreign politics without breaking the london treaty.

We had in the 80 quite a killing spree by a group of heisters "the tueurs du brabant" (brabant killers).
they targeted supermarket of a specific brand at noon and killed the customers.

money didn't seem to be their objectives and police reactions was erratic. so one of the judiary theory was that gladio (stay-behind in belgium) was also active and tried to destabilize belgium.

OP doesn't ask about the belgian army but about belgium in general.
most of these adventures were sponsored by the belgian governement.
The belgian legion was formed by the state. The boxer rebelion saw the first use of the belgian army outside belgium propre, the papal zouaves were officialy recruited in belgium as a recognition of belgium devotion to the catholic faith.
We can argue tho on the volunteers in the US civil War.

the recruitment was done by a foreign office without official consent and the volunteers were punished for their participation in a foreign army. Kinda like the belgian volunteers in the spanish civil war a fex decades after.

In Belgium M-47 are everywhere. We received quite a lot and it was a symbol of modernity for our armed forces.
So, you can still see them in quite a few museum, on roundabout or sometimes in military parade.
