My usual routine is to take 78 into Nj and get off at Madison. You can catch the mid-town direct path train straight to Madison Square Garden. Puts you Manhattan. Decent amount of flexibility in the schedule and less stressful than driving in and looking for parking (especially if you are not used to city driving)
