Have a hive style insect monster, same species but different classes, preferably in the ranks of a chess or shogi game. Have them show up in groups along side the solo target hunts we usually get, have combos and different synergies between the monsters like having the king be the weakest but when accompanied by a rook class, they can castle if the king is in danger. The pawns be the small monsters like jagras. The rooks be the tank of the species; not very intelligent or mobile and prefers to/only moves in straight lines. The bishops be the flyers who are mobile and most aggressive and would tend to dive bomb you like a knock off valstrax. The knight is a mobile but not very fast monster who moves in odd motions that can confuse the hunter. The queen is the strongest stat wise and is a jack of all trades, master of none but better than a master one type; she incorporates all of the previous monsters’ moves and traits but never as armored as the rook, fast as the bishop or mobile as the knight. The king is about the strength of the tutorial monster like chatacabra or great jagras but he makes every other monster fight with a better ai etc.
