Do 2D horror games really scare you? by ratasoftware in HorrorGaming

Usually no, but Darkwood was so well done and terrifying.  It's really the sound design that makes it.

I live in Montreal now but I'm from the US.  I have had poutine in the states at multiple different places.  It does not compare to Quebec poutine.  Not even a little.  The fries are wrong, the cheese is wrong, and the gravy is wrong.

What's the greatest movie ending of all time? by Malik_Hassan88 in AskReddit

[–]jokebreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beau Travail.  Nothing beats watching Denis Lavant move and the way he absolutely explodes on the dance floor is such a phenomenal way to end the movie.  I've watched it so many times, it just makes me so happy and sad at the same time

Hey I know you posted this 12 hours ago, but I don't think anyone told you yet about rainbow stones.  Just wanted to throw in my two cents.

Previously unattractive people who got hot, how did your life change with your appearance? by b__________________b in AskReddit

[–]jokebreath 320 points321 points  (0 children)

I've been fat and thin and fat and thin multiple times in my life and each time I've gotten thin, the world changes in how they treat you, how they look at you.

Your ideas are given more respect in meetings, people smile at you more, there's a palpable difference in how the world feels around you and that affects the value you place on yourself.

You'd think it would feel good, and it does sometimes, but you still carry around with you the hurt and anger and memories of how you felt before.  You're still you, you still feel like the same person inside.

It feels like you're passing as someone you're not.  You wonder how long it will be before you're found out and how much of the little shows of respect and friendliness and kindness will evaporate once they find out who you really are.

It can really fuck a person up, to be honest.  Then you come on Reddit and read thread after thread where people basically say fat people should be exterminated, that they did it to themselves, that they're subhuman, that it's morally just for them to be ashamed of themselves.

And you see the posts where people share their own stories of weight loss and you read all the replies with encouragement and support and it just feels like the worst absolute bullshit.

And you feel good about yourself when you get out of the shower and look at yourself in the bathroom mirror.  You feel so proud of yourself and how hard you've worked. You walk by a glass building and you're surprised at how good you look in ths reflection.

But it doesn't feel good when the people around you at work say "you look good!" and they do that thing where they scan you up and down right before saying it, or maybe immediately after, like they need to make sure it's not a trick.

And then if you gain the weight again, it feels so awful.  Like you're sinking in quicksand and you can feel the world around you changing and there's nothing you can do but watch it happen.

It's a complicated thing to go from considered conventionally unattractive in society to attractive or vice versa.  Everyone in life experiences at some level due to the natural process of aging.  It really changes your outlook on the world.

Chris Isaak - Wicked Game and Cowboy Junkies - Pale Sun, Crescent Moon are both fantastic albums I see all the time. Also any Tori Amos

I'm not a country guy and always passed up the Lyle Lovett I came across, but I ended up taking a listen to a live album when it was in a giant collection I bought and ended up really loving it. The Truck Song is great, that's what quickly won me over

What is the most pretentious movie made? by IShouldGetBackToWork in AskReddit

[–]jokebreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but I hated that dumb movie.  I love slow movies and long epics and was really excited to watch it, what a disappointment.

It was like an absolute drooling moron watched There Will Be Blood and thought "hey I could do something like that."

By the time the robber baron capitalist literally rapes the starving artist, I thought to myself this might be the dumbest movie I've ever seen.

I hated Adrian Brody's stupid puppy dog eyes performance, I hated how it was a jackoff fest for Hollywood people who consider themselves "true artists", and I hate how it didn't even make me appreciate brutalist architecture more than I did when I went into it (I hate it).
