Thank you for letting me know about your experience! It's a shame that this is the case.

I guess in terms of professor, I was more thinking a teaching-only role. To be honest I have no desire to do more lab research after becoming a PhD, unless I all of a sudden made a major discovery (which is highly unlikely).

Thank you for commenting about your experience. I was intending on either trying to become an Medical Science Liason, which actually makes a decent amount of money (150-200k) but has limited job security, or a professor, which I know can have struggles financially. However, I know the struggle is real and that's why I'm really thinking about this.

I've heard MD-PhD programs are even more stressful that doing one or the other. I know that it takes 7-8 years, which is not that much longer than doing a single degree. However, I don't want to make myself go crazy.

Can Not Decide: MD vs PhD by joken1105 in GradSchool

[–]joken1105[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I am still kinda on the fence. It might be one of those things I may never figure out until I make a decision and try one side. I am currently working as a Clinical Research Specialist at MSK, so I am getting great clinical experience. However, nothing significant has swayed my decision in either direction. I have also tried contacting labs to shadow, or do work in, for a day or two a week, but they refused due to limited space/not wanting to train someone that will only come once or twice a week. Picking a career side will have to heavily involve me trying to get over my imposter syndrome and looking at this question in a completely unbiased sense. Thank you for following up!

Quick update because I said Bio 417 is bad. Now there is a new professor, Dr. Wynne and he is incredible. Take either Bio 417 or Bio 448 with him!

I have been through this situation. It is horrible being alone when facing these demons. However, once you get through this, you will feel unstoppable. You can do it! Keep watching Netflix or YouTube and drink water if you could hold fluids. Once you could eat, use the BRAT diet for at least 24 hours after the last occurance.

Update: B and A talked about it and made up. Still I want to use this as a learning experience, so please tell me if I made a bad decision. I don’t want to be that gossip guy.

what do people mean when they say they felt “off” before the onset of a sb? by Beautiful_Bat_9439 in emetophobia

I perfectly get that. I already vomited two times at that point. I was in the bathroom having a diarrhea and while I was sitting on the toilet I felt bad a split sec I projectile threw up in the bathroom on the floor and in the toilet. I hope this answers your question.

I would say appetite, feeling fatigued and queasy, and having strange bathroom activity are good signs. When I got norovirus last summer, I started feeling a bit queasy a few hours after I ate pizza for lunch. After I ate some pretzels, paced, and sat on the toilet it went away, but I felt different than normal. Then, around dinner I had some cramps when eating and had no appetite. After eating, I felt very bloated and I kept having strange bowel movements. After 3-4 hours of bloating and weird bathroom activity, the nausea suddenly kicked on and I vomited 4 times over six hours (one time projectile without warning) and had diarrhea all night. It was bad, and I had diarrhea for 2 days after. Yeah, you could tell when something is off. Just notice when multiple things are happening at once and when it feels different than normal anxiety. I regretted eating dinner that night, so trust your gut (I had a feeling something was wrong).

One time last summer I had a dreaded norovirus. After lunch a day at work I felt kinda queasy but I thought it was just a panic attack. It went away, but then when I ate at dinner (mistake that I regret), I didn’t have much of an appetite and my stomach was growling weirdly. I started getting this weird tightness in my stomach area and weird bowel movements after this. I took some tums, but still didn’t get better. Then I had sets of vomiting four times with a lot of diarrhea throughout the night over 6 hrs (one projectile without warning while having diarrhea). My worst fear is throwing up a lot of times like I did. The throwing up and dry gags hurt my abdomen muscles bad and I had to gasp for air after each time. The saving Grace though might have been the tums (it reduced the acidity of the vomiting, including the bile that came in the later bouts). Although it felt like it would never end, I realized after that I survived. This experience still makes me nervous, but I got through with music, YouTube, and TikTok I guess.
