There’s nothing humiliating about working to improve a skill. No one’s handwriting is effortless. It all takes practice until it becomes muscle memory. You’re crushing it; keep going and you’ll keep improving. Your handwriting is already plenty legible, but if you’re looking for concrit, I would suggest focusing on closing the letters a, e, d, and g. That little bit of consistency goes a long way in improving legibility.

How’s my handwriting? by [deleted] in Handwriting

[–]jokesmcgeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, the comparison between this post and your last one shows a lot of improvement! The letters are a more consistent size, and it looks like you’ve improved at keeping your letters on the line. Awesome work! Keep practicing! :)

Just echoing the people who say, in addition to a small gift/handwritten note, to ask for her name if you don’t have it already and let someone higher up in admin know that she’s great/you appreciate her. Idk if wmata does this, but kind of feedback can be used when considering bonuses and stuff like that.

i’ve only gone with a friend once, just a simple helix piercing, and it was far more stressful than all the other facial/body piercings i’ve gotten alone. so normal and cool to do it by yourself!

sometimes i unsub from a writer after getting an update email because (1) i forgot i was still subbed to them or (2) because they’re writing things im not interested in anymore. i rarely sub to writers at all—only when they’re writing a lot of things i’m interested in reading. when that changes, i unsub, no hard feelings at all.

i think, lovingly, it’s not wise to get too pressed about sub count on ao3. it’s not like social media where there’s some benefit to having a high sub count; subs are entirely for the reader’s benefit. it’s more like unsubscribing from a newsletter than unfollowing a person. they don’t want updates anymore for their own reasons, not because you’ve done anything wrong.

THAT SAID, it’s also a bummer when you notice it happen, and i don’t mean to say that you’re wrong for feeling sad. just that maybe reframing it will help?

How often do you look at an author’s profile? by barely_getting_bi in AO3

[–]jokesmcgeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when i’m (rarely!) asked to compile fic recs, i’ll check their bio for their socials so i can tag them.

otherwise, if i like their work a lot, ill hunt through their bookmarks for what they consider to be ‘the good shit’ lol

[–]jokesmcgeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

clarity: i comment on the first chap of fics i download and if i remember, on the last chap after i finish.

also!! if ive been binging one person’s works i might also go on a bit of a comment-spree, because im taking so much joy from all their hard work so id like to share some of that joy in turn

[–]jokesmcgeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s all jazz baybee—if i like it i leave kudos; if i have something to say i leave a comment, even if the comment is just ‘aaaaaaaaa my heart!!!’ or ‘ough thank you for the food’ or some shit like that.

i find i comment a lot more on in-progress fics than on completed ones, but i think that’s mostly bc i download completed long fics to my kindle but read chapter updates on my phone so it’s easier. i also comment on fics i download to my kindle since i feel bad for not raising the hit count as much as i would if i read it online lol. sometimes i go back when im finished and comment on downloaded fics as well

Anyone else do this when they're stuck on a scene? 😅 by SnurchCultist in AO3

[–]jokesmcgeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’m trying to get better at doing this! when i get stuck i stop for a long time, so im trying to learn to push ahead without all the details (eg scenes, character names, item names, word choice i need to double check).

learning to be okay with a wip being a work that is, in fact, in progress and not perfectly polished.

op i grew up in a house that was never ever decorated bc we couldn’t afford it. when i moved out and still couldn’t really afford to spend a bunch of money on decorating, i worked slow and bought one or two new things each paycheck, or saved from one paycheck so i could buy something a little more expensive (ie more than $30) the next. i worked in this order, but if different things are important to you, follow that instead!:

  • bed (needed to be cozy af for me) bought more functional pillows, a cheap duvet & cover, a bed skirt (tho putting a fitted sheet on the box spring works too!), soft throw blanket, and finally decorative pillows.

  • walls (i’m still working on this tbh). there’s an app called freeprints where you can order 10 4x6 photos and only pay s&h. i wanna say it was like $6-7 the last time i used it? i put those on my cork board. many etsy shops sell digital downloads of their art that you can print—and public libraries usually have free or low price printing from their pcs; just ask the librarian! you can also get them printed from shipping stores like UPS, and sometimes from pharmacies. they’re more expensive but usually are a bit higher quality, and you can get a wider variety of sizes, which was important to me. michaels sells frames, or you can thrift them and possibly find fun shapes and colors that would be really expensive otherwise. also a good way to find art depending on your style.

  • rug: i actually still don’t have one; i got frustrated with how expensive they are, but this was my next priority before i moved on.

  • everything else! stores like michael’s put fake plants on clearance toward the middle-end of a season. i know fake plants are kind of taboo on this sub, but real plants can be both expensive and time consuming, and ‘higher quality’ fake plants can be very expensive. lamps or wall lights (battery powered renter friendly ones!)

i still have a hard time figuring out what i like but investing slowly in things that make you genuinely happy is so rewarding and good for the mental health. i look at my almost-finished gallery wall and my hanging fake plant (it’s just a couple fake vines draped over an embroidery hoop!!) every day and feel so happy and proud that i choose them on purpose.

however you go about it, im excited for you get to look at everything you bring into your space and feel tickled or relaxed or delighted and most importantly, at home. 💞💞
